Fifty Plus (50+) - Now this is a serious bike rider

I know this probably belongs in the touring forum but I think anyone that rides will enjoy this write up. Take a look you will not believe what you see, and we do have some bent riders in here.

Haven't checked the thread out, but I'd bet some cash that he's a ham operator. I am too. N+1 applies to radios as well as bikes (and guns). I'm not very active in ham radio of late, but I've been tempted to carry my small VHF/UHF rig along on the bike.

Wow! I agonize whether to pack 2 pairs of extra socks or 3 pair on a tour.

Ham here too. I've done some mobile and air-mobile CW and have considered trying cycling CW (while on the move) but haven't...yet. Also a gun enthusiast and have gone hunting on my mountain bike.

I'm guilty of mobile CW myself, although it's been a loooong time. Rigged an old military leg strap from a J-38 setup and substituted a set of Brown Bros. paddles. Cycling CW, now that would be a trick!

That's what I was wondering about too. Some recumbents have a gazillion gears including a seriously low low. I was looking at his kick stand with the little wheels. I'm wondering if he can deploy that while riding up hills in his low gear so he won't fall over at such a low speed.

With the sunspot activity on the rise, it might be time to start thinking about some QRP CW DX Bike-mobile... maybe a 20m hamstick on my Ti bike?

Check the dates. He was doing this in the 80s, with of course 80's technology. All those heavy, bulky electronics could be replaced now with a few pocket devices.

Is 20 m long enough that sunspots won't affect it? I'd have thought they created wideband noise.

Reminds me of this guy cycling in Paris last September. I wish I had gotten a more frontal view but we came up a side street and this angle was all I could get. Note the flag that I partly cut off at the top, and what I believe is a stove pipe coming up in the back.
