Introductions - Hello from Smyrna Georgia

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'd like to say hello to everyone, as I'm new to the forum. I accidently rediscovered biking a couple years ago after I got tired of sitting in traffic jams. With the intent of commuting 4 miles to work, I picked up a new comfort bike from the local Trek dealer and started bike commuting. As a middle ager, I hadn't been on a bike for 30 years. I think my last bike had a rear slick and a bananna seat. Little did I know what I was getting myself into. I absolutely loved riding to work. Riding to work turned into riding to the store, riding to breakfast, riding to dinner, and anywhere else I could go by bike. You get the picture!
I now own 7 bikes and love the old vintage Raleighs. I just picked up two DL-1 Raleigh Tourists this past week to restore. Since my last restoration is over (Raleigh Sprite), I'm ready to start on a new one! I hope to become friends with many of you in the forums.

Hi! What a weird coincidence - I'm in Smyrna and am about to sell a vintage Raleigh! ha. I'm very new to cycling in general, and right now only sticking to the Silver Comet, but thankfully my husband has become interested so he's is going to start going with me this week.

Thanks Kwhite. Hope to meet you as well. If you see an old Raleigh, there's a good chance it's me. I haven't seen any others on the Silver Comet yet.

Kayhold, are you the same person as Kwhite (above)? Tell me about the Raleigh you're selling.

Hey! No, that's not me. The Raleigh isn't anything special, it's a Grand Mesa mtn bike, I picked it up at the thrift store for $40 and decided to not restore it. It needs new cables and tires but I think the rest is fine. The only rust I really saw was on things like the reflector. I'm going to try it on CL for $40 to get my money back and help pay for that kids trailer I just bought, ha!

Thanks for the info. I am mostly interested in the old Tourists and Sports bikes. Please say hello on the trail if you see me on an old Raleigh. This is not likely to happen though, until the weather warms up alot!

Just wanted to let you know -
I was given a 1978 Raleigh Grand Prix in working condition today. I'm going to tune it up and get it cleaned up, and keep it. I love it, I love the colors, the mixte style, and since it was made the month and year I was born, it's a sign!
I thought you might appreciate it. :)
So, if YOU see an old Raleigh on the Silver Comet, it might be me! :D

Beautiful! It's definitely a keeper! But, if you decide to part with it . . . . I'd love to have a mixte. I'll definitely keep an eye out for this bike on the SC. Don't know who you use for a bike shop, but if you need someone who is good with the older bikes, I can give you a recomendation.
