Quite a guy. The Band of Brothers series is one everyone should watch (or read) before rushing in to support any war.

+1 The book was quite good as well. He sounded like a heck of a leader of men. RIP

From the wiki article on Winters

During the interview segment of the miniseries Band of Brothers, Winters quoted a passage from a letter he received from Sergeant Mike Ranney, "I cherish the memories of a question my grandson asked me the other day when he said, 'Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?' Grandpa said 'No… but I served in a company of heroes…'"

What a wonderful way to put it. That quote resonated with me since viewing Band of Brothers for the first time.

Another member of the greatest generation lost to us. Rest in peace.

RIP

We're losing the survivors of WWII at an alarming rate. These folks are all heroes and we'll miss them all.

saw that yesterday on facebook. i've seen the series, but never read the book. my uncle has and said it is quite amazing. i don't particularly enjoy reading, but i will take the plunge someday and enjoy this one. R.I.P. "Cpt. Sobel, we salute the rank, not the man."

Sooo.... Dick Winters being a local boy...

Hershey/Derry township has a special memorial service (http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2011/03/dick_winters_of_band_of_brothe_2.html). And who shows up (besides some Easy Company survivors)?...

Tom Hanks.
