It's one of my relaxation hobbies - until I have to spend money on something else that breaks unexpectedly

Traxxas 4-Tec (electric):

Traxxas Slash 2WD:

Traxxas Rustler:

All of these are brushed, with cheap ESC's - hence, a "relaxation" hobby - as opposed to a money-out-the-door hobby. That's reserved for the bikes.

I used to be. I loved painting the Lexan bodies. It gets very expensive though with every crash. I figured I could spend the money on real car parts instead.

I've been doing the real thing myself, and where I save money, I find that I'm putting twice the effort. Not fun replacing a rear window buried under a vinyl top - AND taking care of under-vinyl rust in the process.

The Slash has a JConcepts Raptor SVT-R shell on it; the only one I've painted so far. Fun stuff.

I'm rather partial to that truck. It's the fastest of the lot with a 12 turn Trinity motor, and it's also survived every high-speed impact and rollover it's been in. The 4-Tec, though a mechanical nightmare, seems to hold up OK, though the HPI shells are crap:

Looked pretty good from the front though. Nevertheless, the chassis now sits under the 'Cuda:

Our youngest son got a hobby level Dura Trax Evader from Santa, as we were tired or replacing AA batteries and throwing away R/C's that cost $50 and were not repairable when they broke. At 6 it is a challenge for him to control but it is something he can grow into. Do date, we have not done any modifications, or even put decals on the body.

What a weird timing thing, I used to race Formula 1 electric cars at an indoor carpet track. All of it just got sold on ebay (or is closing tonight) as I haven't done it for years, it just got too expensive.

Good stuff, Jsharr. Nothing like some good stuff (for the kids - couldn't help but note your Hudsucker references).

Noiseboy, you wouldn't happen to have a spare, brushed motor over 15T that didn't get eBayed, do you?

Tamiya fan here - had a few over the years, both electric and nitro, and ended up selling them off. Down to two - a TT-01 hopped up with various parts, currently setup for sliding and drifting around -

PVC pipes cut to length make for some inexpensive drift tires . . .

Stablemate - TG-01 with an O.S. motor swap - some old pics -

I have a Traxxas E-Maxx. Love bashing that thing around the yard.

Aren't those even more expensive, when you crash? :innocent:

Just gotta get something slow enough.

Funny you mention this....

In the background on the furniture is my Team Losi XXX-4 that I use to race in 4WD modified and my HPI RS4 Rally (electric) that I run around for ****s and giggles. Stopped racing because the sport was getting too expensive (especially when you start running low turn modified engines)

Nah, I ran in stock and a special class with dustbuster motors (35 turns 0 Degrees timing), no modified motors at all, and the couple of stock motors that were left were completely frozen from disuse. I stopped racing RC cars in 2001 or 2002 (I honestly can't remember). I sold a HPI F1, a Tamiya F103 F1, an Associated RC10 Team car (graphite chassis), and an RC10 Dual Sport. My PSU and Tekin BC48 are currently on ebay. All I have left is a rack of pinion gears, and a orange (can't remember the brand) ESC that are next on the block. It has been good to get this stuff out of the basement, I wish I had done it years ago. All of the proceeds are going into bike upgrades :)

I won't dare touch helis or aircraft. It's bad enough to smash and replace parts on the cars. Not in the mood of replacing the whole kit when one servo decides to do the Twist.

Unfortunately, I wound up picking this guy up at a yard sale for $8, shell only.

I'm hopeless.

I used to be heavy into them several years back. Had tons of them and used to race 1/8 scale Buggies on the pro series. Then I bought a house and that was the end of all the RC's except for a Mamba Brushless LiPo powered Associated RC18T that I occasionally break out and rip around parking lots.

I've had the HPI Nitro MT2 (4wd) for many years but it has spent most of its life broken. This is a very old picture I have of it...

That's sweet. :thumb:

I haven't gotten a big r/c car since my Tamiya Falcon cracked its transmission case (plus the solder in the speed controller paddle melted after I put a modified motor in it). That was probably 25 years ago...
