Bicycle Mechanics - Help - Trouble Staying Clipped in Right Pedal Only

I am new to the clipless pedal world. I just bought a pair of Forté CR150 Road Pedals. I have no trouble getting in and out of the left pedal, but cannot stay clipped into the right one. I have tried all of the settings, lubed it with WD-40, and tried to break it in for a few hours now. Any suggestions? I'm excited to get on the road. Thank you in advance for your help.

Sounds like you may have a defective pedal. I'd return them and buy these:

Same price and I've found the knock-offs/store brands tend to be more problems than they are worth.

Sometimes on look type pedal systems the curvature of the shoe bends the cleat a bit too much. When that happens back can't get low enough and the rear latch hangs up. I Take a look at your shoes anc see if the cleat is in a highly curved area, then clip it to the pedal and see if the latch springs forward and fully engages the back of the cleat.

If it doesn't, and curvature seems to be the cause, you can fix it by putting a thin shim behind under the back half of the cleat so it isn't curved as much.

Rule out whether it is a problem with the cleat itself by trying to clip in with the other shoe. If the other shoe locks in ok then it could be the cleat itself is defective.

Also check to make sure your cleat retaining hardware is seated correctly and not interfering with cleat engagement. When I installed the hardware for the cleats that came with my campy pedals I used bolts and rectangular washers from a different set of cleats that someone had given me. The bolts had better slots for the screw driver and the washers had serrations that I thought would work better...the bolt head was too wide and the washers to thick and caused problems. I could clip in but could not get my feet out of the pedals without lots of force. I had to swap the bolts and washers for the ones that came with the pedals/cleats to resolve the problem.

Thank you for all of the responses. It looks like the cleat was set at a slightly different angle. I clipped in each shoe by hand and then adjusted the angle of the right shoe to match the left. I'm flying now. Woohoo!
