Hi,

I'm trying to assemble my first custom bike and am learning just how much I don't know.
I have a new Motobecane Le Champion frame and am trying to install a SRAM Rival crankset. I'm pretty sure the BB and the frame threads match up at 68mm, and I'm greasing the threads, but the BB on the drive side won't actually catch the threads and on the non-drive side it goes in just a little (maybe 5 turns) before it locks up. I'm using just my hands as I don't have an external BB tool, but don't know what the problem is as everything should just screw on I assume. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Drive side is left-hand threaded. As for NDS issue, are the frame threads clean, paint-free, etc?

May need to have the threads chased. Also, if going with external bearing BB, you should have the BB faced.

You will need a GXP tool too - and preferably a torque wrench (more than one use if you're building up a complete bike).

I agree with the chasing - it should be cheap and easy for a bike shop to do. Most people agree with the facing part too, but a frame I recently purchased (Felt ZC) specifically stated do not face the BB.

Anyone know if it's English or Italian thread?

read 'Motobecane Le Champion frame' so either OLD and perhaps French,Metric, 35mm R/R
or BD using the name on what is likely a PRC sourced frame , would be British pattern thread. 1.37" and R/L
