Cruised the neighborhood thrift shop today and noticed a really pretty ladies Centurion -- silver and blue, Dia-Compe sidepulls, Shimano 616 rear derailleur, nice saddle: Fifteen bucks. The catch is the rear derailleur is missing an idler wheel.

I'm thinking either the wife will like it, or I can turn it for more than $15 anyway. Is that idler wheel gonna be a big hassle, or is it a common part?

Any good LBS should be able to hook you up for a couple bucks. Nashbar, Loose Screws and other online stores typically carry them. Allen head wrench and 10 minutes should have you fixed and ready to roll.

If it fits, go for it.

You can just buy a new derailleur for less expense and hassle. Nashbar has Sora's for 5 bucks, the long cage version should work fine.
