Since I actively started cycling about 3 1/2 years ago (100 miles a week on an average), I noticed that my nails and hair are growing considerably faster than before. It's not like I have been keeping a journal about it, but I have noticed the change.

What I know has changed is the increase in my calorie intake and yet I have lost some weight. I guess what happens is that digestive system and everything else in the body accelerates because of the activity, so it would make sense that nails and hair growth accelerate as well.

Anyone else notice this change as opposed to before you started?

Do you have to shave your legs more often?

Oh no, I don't shave my legs. I was more referring to head and facial hair. (should have clarified that ;) )

Obviously you are not riding enough if you have time to think about these things.

You are spot on. ;) (not really)

According to your responses, noticing changes on one's "temple" that cycling might contribute to, is frowned upon. Who'd have thunk it.

Never noticed the hair or nail growth but one thing I do know is that Hair too long and the helmet doesn't fit right and long toenails get painfull after a good few miles.

And these do have a bearing on cycling but as to whether cycling has an "Adverse" effect on growth---No Idea.

I could be wrong on this but I think sun helps make nails stronger, due to the vitamin D synthesis. As for hair, I am not sure about that one.

I work in the sun riding a bike and ride but I havent noticed anything imparticular.

Sun/vitamin D makes some sense. Being exposed to sun for over 2 hours in the summer time during rides could make a difference as far as what I am talking about..

But then again, it could all be in my head, so who knows.
