My best friend's grandmother, Besse (pronounced Bess) Cooper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Besse_Cooper) is now the oldest person alive.
She moved to Georgia from Tennessee via raft, and didn't see her first car until she was 19.

She is adorable! I love little old people. Great pic too, OP.

I myself hope to God I don't live that long. I'm ready for my exit as it is.

Unless I missed something, the link you provided claims she's the second oldest, not the oldest. Pretty cool none the less.

Very cool.

To put this in perspective, they were ten years old when the Chicago Cubs last won the World Series. Wow.

Not trying to derail here........

My stepmother was 108, until about 7:30 this morning. We here at home will all miss her.

The local paper screwed up and reported a false story. Mrs. Cooper is still the penultimate player in world's highest stake game.

She credits her longevity to having never ridden a bicycle and avoiding the internet like it was the plague.

Not.

God Bless Her.

Living that long you would easily outlive your kids and possibly grandkids. That would be difficult.

It's official now. Mrs. Cooper is the oldest person alive and one of the 60 oldest to ever live.
She has living children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

The guy who looks back at me from the bathroom mirror most mornings must be somewhere around that age. One of these days I should find out just who the hell he is.

And adding my condolences to DX.

Crazy. Figure out what she ate/did and try to repeat yourself! She has lived well over twice the average life span of a human when she was born! So crazy!

Thanks, all; it means something to hear.

We've discovered a small "legacy" that Mama left us; her biological son, ten years my senior, is a bit long-winded (takes 35 minutes to say what I can say in 1). He tends to just go ON AND ON AND ON about trifles. More than once, while visiting with her (she lived under my roof her last 6 years), she would hear him doing this, and just shake her head and say, "I know that's my boy's birthmark, but he just TALK TOO MUCH! Just GOES ON, LAPPY LAPPY LAPPY!" (And while saying "lappy lappy lappy", she would flap her fingers like a duck's bill! Hilarious!)

Now, in her memory, all of us are saying that behind his back......Complete with hand gesture.
