I guess you can make a buck off anything. I don't see any writing on what part of the money spent on that is going towards breast cancer research. His motto should be, "Support breast cancer research and my bank account." What a tool.
The fact that 62 idiots bid on this item is pretty scary. Clearly, it's not from the foundation... it's probably from Taiwan...

I don't see how this has anything to do with Livestrong bands.
Of course it's not. Then what happens is when the idiots get their bracelets and see the word "Live" is actually "Livve", they'll realize it too, then they'll be pretty upset because they don't have the real thing. Then the person who put the bracelets out there will say he never said it was from the foundation! Which of course, will be the truth, since he never does say they are from the charity foundation.

problem is there is a site where you can make your own livestrong-style bands saying wahtever you want...and the price is very cheap.
So scumbags like this show up.
I still wish I was legally allowed to tar and feather them.

good for the seller! Make a few bucks and he's hurting no one.
however, if I saw that rainbow bracelet from a distant, I wouldn't associate it with LiveStrong, I'd simply think the wearer was queer.

No offense but nowhere on that auction (title or auction description) does it say it is a livestrong band, or associated with the LAF at all. Nor is it implied in the title or elsewhere. He simply says that the band has an inscription which reads "livve long support breast cancer research and education." Which I suspect is a typo anyways.
The only dubious thing about the auction is that he doesn't say whether or not the proceeds actually go to a foundation or a charity.
I'm not defending the guy, just I hate to see people being villified for something they aren't doing.
You do realize Nike sells bands like this for different purposes OTHER than the livestrong bands. Baller ID bands etc.

It's even a computer-drawn picture, lol
I must be behind on the times, I haven't really heard much about what those live strong bracelets are... A fundraiser thing for cancer, that soccer players can't wear? :p

I was wondering how long knock-off campaigns would take to start...

I KNOW there's nothing there- but we all aren't dense- you put the wording in such a way that people who aren't reading the full description don't catch, and you end up with 62 naive folks who think there's some association with the foundation. Then when people get the bracelets, they usually figure it out, and by that time, it's too late.
Regardless, it's not villifying someone who is obviously using a mis-spelling to capitalize on a situation. Livestrong is a trademarked, copyrighted name, and if the foundation did find out about this bracelet scam, they could easily go to court and stop the idiots from using the Livestrong name to capitalize. There's a reason why companies are not allowed to take a name, simply misspell it by a letter or two, and sell the same type of product to the general public. Livestrong is a brand name and has an assocation with charity, and simply misspelling the name, but selling an almost identical product is unlawful, and it is not sanctioned. I actually hope Livestrong finds out about it and sues the people for the profits, since it's obvious these folks are benefitting from the Livestrong name.
The Nike example you give has no relevance to this situation.

I am all for flying the rainbow...but it's cancer research...the two should not be mixed...
what's next, rainbow remembrance flowers?
I find too many people trying to make money through what were supposed to be charitable cause...

Wrong. I fail to see how Llive or Live is even close to "livestrong". This does not appear in the title either. The Nike thing HAS relevance to the situation. Why? People may be aware that there are bands for other purposes OTHER than for livestrong.
Perhaps people want a rainbow band that says Inscribed "livve long support breast cancer research and education."
Hell how do you not catch the rest of the sentence for the inscription if you only read the first word? Which is 'livve long'. There are times when you can be outraged and there are times when it really isn't warranted. I stick by my original conviction, the only harm done here is that this guy is selling rainbow bands that may implies some sort of cancer research support. He neither implies or claims this anywhere in the auction.
Now if you're telling me you when you read even a 'part' of the auction you see "livestrong band LAF Lance Armstrong, Yellow Band" then you truly are quote- dense. Even if you dont' read the description are you stupid enough to think that rainbow of colours in the picture is yellow?
No, I am not stupid, but the laws are designed for those who are stupid.
If you seriously think that some naive owner suddenly decided to make some band and talk about cancer research, and deliberately spelled a word that is close to the livestrong trademarked, licensed name, then put it up on the net to sell them to people, and didn't think they would be close enough to the Livestrong logo to the point that people could or would become confused, then I would have to say you are seriously dense. If you work in a law firm, or know anything about the law, you would know that there could be potential trademark issues, and should Livestrong pursue this issue, they would have a good chance of having legal recourse in court. The fact of the matter is, people are stupid. Our country has a lot of stupid people who are easily taken advantage of, and if you decide to research trademarks, you would see there are legal issues to this. If you create a product that is similar to a product that is already out there, and if you're using their methods to sell it, and if you're using their name or logo to move your product, even if it's just a little off, the Livestrong foundation will have legal recourse. It's in patent and trademark laws, and it's pretty clear. It's been upheld in courts across the country, and if you decide to pay for your trademark to extend into international trademarks, then you have legal recourse no matter where in the world some fool tries to mass produce their product. Any thinking person can look at that product and see there is an attempt by these people to capitalize off the Livestrong foundation. Luckily for Livestrong, there are clear laws that protect them from this type of "hijacking" of their ideas and product.
Even now, if this bracelet had nothing to do with Livestrong, why is it even being mentioned on bikeforums? If it was a totally different product, it shouldn't even matter, and shouldn't have been brought up in the first place. But the fact of the matter remains- you cannot create a product that is similar to another trademarked product, then use wording that also is close to the wording of another trademarked product and not expect people to be confused. Luckily, there are a lot of people out there that know better, but there will certainly be some people who don't. And those are the people that this guy is obviously targeting.
I'm going to send the ebay link to Livestrong anyway. If they decide to pursue it, they'll definitely have some legal recourse (which I'm sure they already know).

It is shame that no one in this discussion bothered to check out what livvelong.org is before they ripped it apart. It is an organization by the same man who lobbied, and created the breast cancer awareness stamp, and for all of you that said the band looks "queer" (nevermind how close minded that makes you) it is actually the same colors as the breast cancer stamp. So yes this is a legitimate band that gives to breast cancer research, even though it is a knockoff of the same idea as the Livestrong band. Anything you buy on ebay will not make it back to charity, including the Livestrong bands. Check out the webpage for livvelong and don't knock it 'till you look into it.

YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED! i mean, judging by the word Livve that it's a knock-off of Livestrong and thats it's not going to a foundationis ridic and immature. Besides, LiveStrong bands arent coprighted, anyone could've thought of a piece of rubber as a bracelet. So why are you all calling those bracelets copies of livestrong? some are just for fun while others are for REAL causes. Since it's not copyrighted who knows who made it first. Perhaps LAF just got them out faster. I have three bracelets benefitting LAF, breast cancer, and diabetes, and I may get another breast cancer one of a different kind. And that rainbow bracelet was pretty cool. You guys are so shallow to say "It can't be livestrong, it's too queer." etc etc. But i just love it how you jump to conclusions.......not
