So, despite all the courts being closed and the subway nearly desolate on the way in, our law firm is open today. Naturally this would be great with the exception that I am salary and do not benefit from holiday time pay. Anyone else stuck at work today and feeling jaded?

I'll be going to work in a couple of hours. In lieu of holiday pay for today we get a floater, which can be used at any time of the year.

Apparently we have a "optional" holiday to choose from & MLK was one of them. This would have been nice to know prior to today. My boss didn't even know it was a holiday today, go figure. Guess I will be taking Presidents Day off instead.

Why eww? I can take a paid day off any time. I could have even used it today but I didn't need to.

I get 7 of them. I can even make a new vacation week!!

We don't get holiday pay on "government" holidays, only Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I've had jobs where I had to work on Thanksgiving. Quit yer *****in.

We don't get today off, but we to get Good Friday off. Must be something about a place historically composed almost entirely of 40+ year old white guys. Actually, the holiday policy here is pretty good otherwise.

I'm off today, but only because its my regular days off. I don't get holidays off unless I put in for leave. I get my holidays as an extra bank of leave called "holiday leave" that's the perk and draw back of being an essential gov't employee. On some holidays its dead, like Christmas, but on others it's crazy, like Black Friday and New Years Morning. I like the term "floater" I'm gonna use that and see if I can get it to catch on.

Try the oilpatch. No such thing as holidays. Rigs never shut down for the calender.

I'm off but since Monday is a 9-hour day and we only get 6 hours off for the holiday, I have to use an hour of my accrued vacation, exec or floating time.

Went for a ride and got hit by a car so now I'm sitting in my recliner on my left side and trying no to bleed on the keyboard.

I'm working... the only advantage of coming in today is that apparently most of the people in my office are not. I got a prino parking space! And another plus... no phone calls today. Not one as of yet!

I once worked at a job where there was an extremely unusual and reasonable holiday policy.

Every day was a work day. You got 9 floating holidays per year. You got to choose which days would be holidays for you, but they had to be real holidays according to SOME tradition. So Christmas and New Years were work days, unless you wanted to use one of your 9 days to take off on one or both of them. If you're Jewish, you could work on Christmas but use your holidays for Jewish holidays. And so on for other traditions. Very nice.

I'm glad I didn't need to waste my FTO on a single day in the middle of winter because someone says I have to. OTOH, I'm glad government emplyees have to waste their vacation today, one less day to hassle working folks!

Aren't there bike lanes there?I got right hooked. I don't have a bike computer but I'd estimate that on a slight downhill with a tailwind I was doing low 30s.

Car turns right at an intersection when you are going straight.

Thanks to both of you.

I hope they stopped. What are the traffic laws concerning right turns where there are bike lanes? We don't have bike lanes here, but most car vs bike accidents the driver takes off.

I just got lucky with the schedule. I worked Christmas Eve & day, and New Years Eve & day. I did have the most important day off this holiday season and that was Black Friday.

In CA, cars are allowed to merge into the bike lane before making a right turn - provided they don't run into a cyclist while they're doing it.

Ouch. Good luck with minimal injuries and bike damage. Did they stop? Police report? All that good stuff?Police, fire engine, ambulance, bunch of witnesses, the whole bit.

I cleaned, waxed and lubed the bike yesterday. It was shiny and had a the new Zimbale bag and Bagman rack that I got for Christmas. Now it's got a bent wheel, broken fenders, broken tailight, broken rear derailler, bent rack, ripped bar tape, broken rear shifter, torn saddle and the hoods and top tube are bloody. That's just what I can see. I'm hoping the frame isn't bent.

He was stopped in the left turn lane waiting for the light. He crossed two lanes and made the right turn. He was going to the Staples.

I worked, but apparently a lot of people didn't. An expressway was almost empty, while usually it's a grid lock charlie foxtrot. Which makes my commute on motorcycle a cross between demolition derby and death race.

Same here. The law firm I work at was still open, despite courts and banks being closed. None of the lawyers were there.

I actually found it nice. The phones were quiet so I could finish up on some of the work I had. I have a back log of user profile creation and computer rebuilds because of a network outage last week.
