Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - SHOULD I BUY THIS 1940's BEAUTY? ... 300 dollars.

hi fellas, this is my first post of what i hope to be many. I was wondering if anyone here can tell if this is actually a MUHLHAUSEN from the 1940's and if it is ( or isn't ) if it would be a good deal to buy it for 300 bucks.

I think the standard for bikes like this is the Raleigh DL-1 Tourist, and they generally get about $200 for those, more or less. I don't know the Muhlhausen brand, so I don't know how it compares to Raleigh (better or worse). Because it is a more rare brand, though, bits for things like the rod brakes may be hard to come by. That said... if you really love the bike and it's just what you're looking for, it's not outrageous.

One definitely negative, one possible: No chainguard - and good luck finding one. The other is the infamous 'check the fork angle'. I'm hoping its just an optical illusion from the angle, but it drew my eye immediately.

I'm not familiar with the bike, but my initial reaction was "no."

I would say too costly to buy, too costly in time, too costly to replace parts, and too costly to repair (if you have a shop or someone else do it).

I would be interested to see what someone says who is familiar with the bike.

Be patient--if you are, you will find something much better and for much less.
