So last time my Raleigh rep came in I just so happened to think to ask him about the Macaframa frame sets. He just so happened to have 2 left in my size so I went ahead and ordered one. I plan to use some parts I already have and pick up some new stuff, but here's what I'm thinking for parts

7600 Dura ace hubs
Velocity aeroheads
wheelsmith double butted spokes
alloy nipples
7710 Dura ace crank setup, matching BB and chainring
Thomson elite stem
I've got a Thomson post for now, I'm also considering picking up something carbon with 0 setback
Nitto ADB-X bars
Kmc chain
Look keo carbon pedals, (I need to buy new shoes too)
I've got a few saddles to choose from too

radial non-drive side on the rear.

I don't like (aluminum) alloy spoke nipples. The weight savings are negligible and they strip far too easily. I'd go with brass nipples, instead.

radial non-drive side on the rear.

I'd totally do that if i didnt already have it laced 3x. I have the hubs laced to deep Vs now. I wanna rebuild them with the aeroheads and butted spokes. They're 3x rear, radial front now. Both 32h. If i had fresh hubs id go 28h front and do the rear 32h 3x drive, radial non drive. That would be sweet.

That could also happen. I'm sure we all know what those hubs look like, silver spokes, black nipples, black rims. I could do black brass. The weight savings is really gonna come from switching from deep Vs to aeroheads. I've used alloy before with no issues but i know other people that break em all the time. I am a bit heavier than i care to be, you make a good point about reliability.

My gut says that this bike is going to cost about $1,500 or more. You OK with that?

Its only money, I'll make more. It's not gonna all happen at once. I've got another non bike related project that has priority over this. For this though I only have to buy cranks, rebuild the wheels, pedals, and some new shoes. The crank setup will cost the most. No biggie, it'll be worth it. Once i get my tax return i'm hoping to make quick work of the other project. Be rolling this bike by summer.

+1 on the nitto adbx.

If you get them from the store at labrakeless when ever you visit LA you can get them under 120.

I've had the bars a while now. I think i paid about 120 for them new. I'm pretty sure I even have the plastic they came in still too.

I think the ADBX bars look freaking awesome.

...but probably suck to ride being that the only hand position is in the deep drops.

Don't get me wrong, I've always had a thing for those bars. But, there is a reason you don't see them around. Maybe look for or ask for a review from someone who has actually ridden them.

I don't own any dura ace chainrings, and I'm the first guy to throw money at a bike. They are just as expensive as campy.

Here is that frame with ABDX already built:

I love my Velocity Aeros. I'm guessing that this is fulfilling a track/racing niche for you, given the frameset you bought. But my Aeros put up with a lot of rough bumps and seldom need to be trued.

I doubt you'll find potholes on the track. Nevertheless, love the Aeros.

I will take a look around. I have the papers that come with the hubs and they mention it a few times and say it voids the warranty.

This has been discussed before, and although Shimano discourages radial lacing, there are no reported cases of failure in normal use of radially laced front wheels with Dura Ace HF track hubs.

O wow.... I just happen to have a somewhat new set laced to open pros with cx rays, with a radial front, whoever at my LBS who built it completely disregarded the papers... I had these built up over winter for a way lighter wheelset; to my usual b43's

It's actually strongly discouraged to radial lace older campy hubs.

Hmmm what about NOS? Just wondering as there's a pristine NOS pair of pista hubs in pristine original box to boot that popped up on CL around here. Can't say about the price none the less...

cross is so much stronger and it's not like you're building this thing out of carbon with ti bolts.

Yea but, styling in my opinion/ choice... the majority of the track wheelsets I own are front radial laced.

It seems like you'd want to run lower tension to keep from pulling through the hub.

Which would make for a kinda not strong wheel.

And who exactly is this? Campy? I mean, I have a set of 30 year old Campy Record Pista 28 hole HF track hubs that are radially laced in front, and have survived several racing crashes over the years. They were professionally built, the spokes are very tight, and have never needed truing. Unless you are talking about the Sheriff hubs, which are a stupid design anyways, there is no basis for this assertion.

I'm running the Ultegra BB with my D/A cranks. I remember reading a lot of negative reviews on the D/A BB at the time and went with the less expensive Ultegra. The $$ you save will take the sting out of the cost of the D/A chainring : )

What cog are you going with?

The matching dura ace cog and lock ring that i've been running. I like my stuff to match i'm weird like that.

I remember some ad copy for a set of carbon spoked wheels (maybe Mavic?) claiming that the new, improved carbon spokes "work" in both compression and traction while traditional stainless spokes only "work" in compression, or some such nonsense. It was about as goofy a claim as the ShelBroCo wheels, but offered with a straight face.

Here's a little update. If i'm lucky i'll have it rolling by the weekend. Eventually i'll build up the chub wheels I want too, probably in the next couple months. The chub box on my shelf is my change jar before someone makes that comment, I don't have the hubs yet.
