Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - New steamroller build

I'm new to the forum and to fixed gear riding. Just got done with my new build as follows:

Surly Steamroller Frame
Chris King headset
Sram omnium Crankset 48t
Nitto mustache handelbars
Tektro 4.1 front brake
Tektro reverse brake lever
Animal 'Steve Hamilton' PC pedals
Hold Fast pedal straps
Weinmann DP-18 Rims

sram chain

I'm new to fixed gear riding, but I feel like there is alot of resistance when going over cruzing speed on this build. I'm wondering If there is something I did wrong or if its just the reality of fixed gear bicycles. I also haven't picked out a decent saddle for this bike. I was thinking of going with brooks. Is brooks a good buy? or just street hype? Any other recommendations? Any comments are welcome. Looks like you guys have a great forum here and look forward to exchanging information in the future. Brooks are either awesome or terrible, depending on your tastes and whether you like their look. I'm a big fan.

Of course there will be resistance when you go over cruising speed - it's a fixed gear, so you'll have to push harder to get going fast.

One comment on build: Moustache bars aren't always the best for track bikes. Moustache bars are designed to flare out from the stem, and unless you have a bike with a short top tube and short & raised stem you're going to stick out over your front wheel a few extra inches. Kind of like in pursuit position, but with a much smaller place to put your hands on the center/straight part of your bar. Just my opinion on that topic, ignore it if you don't agree.

try getting road drops with hoods. always has varierty of hand position

I really know what you mean about the handlebars. After riding around on them I do feel like I'm hanging too far over the front wheel. I really like the reverse brake lever I have, do you think a different set of handlebars could accept reverse brakes? maybe bullhorns?

Adding to what Maddox said about Brooks. Whether you like them or not could also depend on the model you get. I had a B17 to start with and hated it. This is the one that most people love. I replaced that with a Swift and liked it a lot. I commuted for a year and a half on my Aurora with it. When I got my Sputnik, I bought a Swallow to put on it and actually like it more than the Swift. I'm still breaking it in, but it's great. Many fixed gear riders seem to like the Professional.

On my roadie, I have a Fizik Arione. I also like it a lot. Dunno how it'd look on a Steamroller, but it's a great saddle IMO.

I've never really been a fan of reverse brake levers on moustache bars. I prefer to use hoods, and use them as my primary hand position. The ends are too wide for my taste.

I have a brooks b17 on my steamroller. I'm one of those people who love the way it looks, but it was horribly, horribly uncomfortable at first. Turned out I needed to angle the front of the seat down much more than I have with any other saddle, which is the opposite of what people at my LBS tried to tell me. It's really comfortable now . . .

The front half of your build looks nice; I really like the gray. i think it's from '04?

upgrade your wheels. My only opinion on the matter. Other then that checl all the moving parts. Maybe BB or hubs, could be one is not moving very smoothly. I've read a lot recently on issues with the stock omnomnom BB
