My parents are on vacation in Las Vegas, and I called to see how they were doing. I just happened to call as they were wandering around DT Las Vegas, completely lost, looking for their hotel.

So, I got their cross street intersection and plugged in their hotel in the directions function and got them to the parking lot. My Stepdad thinks I'm a navigation God. :p His comment.........to heck with buying a Tom Tom, we'll just call Tom. :p

Did you ask them to wave and then say "OK, I have you on satellite now. Go North 2 blocks, then..." ?

Yes, I did, actually. :p My Mom really does think I retask satellites, by the way. I know......terrible to troll your mother, but hey. :p

Actually, the conversation went more to the effect of "What's your street and cross street, and what color, make and model is your rental."

"OK, I have you, and you need to turn around and go to.......blank, turn left, go one block, turn right, go X blocks and turn right and you'll be at the entrance to the parking"

I use it a lot too. I'll even go to maps of places I'm going to travel to and follow along the route using the street view just to see what things look like. I was once interested in checking out a small town in Colorado and discovered that the google camera vehicle drove through there at NIGHT. What good is that?

Also if I'm looking for a business and I know the location but not the name, sometimes I can find it on street view and read the signs.

Tom, can I give my mom your phone number when she goes on vacation? :P

Nice work tom tom :) I've done the navigation thing for my boss as well. When heading to a new place, it's nice to check the streetview to see what the buildings actually look like. And i'm spoiled now that I have a smartphone that can do all this when I need it.

I office on the 18th floor and my window overlooks the entrance to the parking garage. I love to be giving directions to someone and spot their car and tell them, turn right now, and don't hit the person in the green coat or whatever. It really freaks them out sometimes.

Ha, both my boss and wife call me, stopped on the side of the road, lost, and ask me to pull up Google Earth and help them drive through town to their destinations. :)

Ahahahahaha. What town was that? I've gotta see this.

I went to check out my cousins' home town and it was rainy/heavily foggy that day and you can't see anything beyond the hood of the car. I would share it with you but it's pretty distinct and my cousins would dislike me forever.

I love the street view feature. I think it's pretty cool to type in places I've never visited (i.e., big ben, eiffel tower, etc) and just pan around. Certainly inspires me to travel.

Google Maps are cool but a lot of western WA is not on it, or wrong. I need to get a lot of verbal backup/confirmation to the directions they give to places I spend a lot of time getting to.

Although using the streetview to look at my house you can see the paper dinosaurs my son put in his bedroom window. Freaky.

The coolest feature I noticed fairly recently is the "Real Estate" tick box. Fun to browse around with it.

I guess I'm an early adopter. I used my old laptop's map program to get my wife un-lost 10 years ago. I loved the strange things caught by streetview.

Those are cool. Looks like Segways and the worlds oldest profession are both popular worldwide.

Cortez, Colorado.

Google must have updated it. I just did a sample of about 6 streets, and they're all during the day.

I use Google Maps to keep an eye on jsharr...and make sure I'm headed in the opposing direction.

If you come into the city from the east on highway 160 there are still shots in the dark. I sometimes go to street view and then just step along the street 50 feet at a time. The funny thing is that most of the way is still in the dark, but occasionally one of these steps will trigger a photo taken during the day. Also I found a spot where apparently the camera car went through a gas station.
