I caught your video on zlog the other day; it was a nice watch. :thumb:

The ride alongside with a classic car near the end is a nice touch.

My only complaint would be the lack of 1080p video

stop banging your head like a fool. it bugs me when people dont have control of the neck off. good tricks and such, needs more riding though. throw in a couple hills and such.

I made it to 1:36 before I had to turn it off. I cant stand watching that much of slow motion effects. Especially with that song. I just think (being someone who used to film/edit videos for skateboarding) there was alot more that you could do with that footage. Also, when you put together a video, dont look at it from your perspective. Try to think of it as what do I like to watch and would this keep me interested. Also, keep record of what tricks are being put where in the video. I mean, there were like 5 tricks total and seeing those 5 tricks done in a slow mo over a 3 minute period makes it boring and hard to watch.

I did however like the little bit from 0:45-0:50 though. I really just dont think freestyle fixed gear is ever going to be much more than a hobby. (First one to ride a halfpipe on a fixed gear with at least 3-4 feet of air wins. )

Technically, this is a full half pipe with half bowls on either end.

As for the OP:

Cool video. Thanks for sharing with us. As another poster said, try another version with less of the same tricks and less slow motion. The slow mo was cool but not for the entire video. All in all it was really cool though. I enjoyed watching it.

Check out this song too. You may like it as well for the video.

to the OP: you should try BMX sometime. Bikes/parts are cheaper+more durable, and because of the smaller size, would allow you to do a greater variety of tricks. Too much slo-mo for me, too much black and white. You do have some skill on that big bike though. Ever think of trials?

No. This won't work. See. Because if they rode BMX, these "tricks" wouldn't be worth filming and they'd be laughed off of youtube.

That means that they'd have to go practice harder and do bigger REAL tricks and that's NOT gonna happen.

FGFS is lame and easy.

I'm not going to build up a $1000 bike just to do a 4 step drop.

Look, everyone says that FGFS is "awesome" because you can't coast. Really? If you put freewheels on those bikes (or imagine that they have freewheels) then those tricks become A LOT less interesting. I'm seeing through the "It's fixed" hype.

The is the equivalent of tilting the camera to create a "creative" photo in photography. Or worse, selective color photo processing (photoshopping).

Yes, riding fixed DOES make the tricks harder to do...but that doesn't make them more interesting. If NCAA players were required to play basketball with one hand, that would make it harder...but not more interesting.

EDIT:

Michael, you are a decent videographer and editor. Maybe apply your talents to other stuff.

Also, from one professional to another, stop throwing your name out all the time. It's not building a brand and following like you think it is. You're not M. Night Shyamalan.

I look at this from a skateboarding perspective. You dont see people taking a longboard and trying a kickflip with it. Why? It wasnt made to do that. Bikes already have a section for people who want to do tricks on bikes. It actually took people a long time to figure out that the current BMX style bikes are what performs best. Please dont devolve your own bike.

EDIT: Carleton is right. I mean, this forum is NOT the place for "FSFG". ( I cant even believe I typed that. Its not even a real thing.)

Take it to tricktrack. This just isnt your venue.

so you are saying that trick-specific fixed gear bikes arent made for tricks? saying fixed gear freestyle isnt real is ignorant. this is a place for single speed and fixed gear. it doesnt say no freestyle fixed gears allowed.

macnab
01-20-11, 10:24 PM
Telling people they can't do tricks because they have "the wrong kind of bike" is close-minded.

But then asking them to look at it "from a skateboard perspective"?

http://www.nndb.com/people/848/000206230/orly-taitz-1-sized.jpg

How quickly we forget... (Then again maybe y'all weren't around back when street skating "wuz invented", so you can beg for a pass.)

"Hey dude stop trying freestyle tricks on your ramp board! It's too big. You need to get a 'freestyle' board for that! You are not proper!11010111!"

http://ursispaltenstein.ch/blog/images/uploads_img/rodney_mullen.jpg

Street skating evolved as people took freestyle tricks and did them on 10x30 boards. The board designs eventually changed into the hybrid we ride street with today. Likewise today we are seeing bike frames evolve in similar ways as kids do tricks with the "wrong" kind of bike, and frame builders add designs to meet their needs.

That's what I see when I look at it from a skateboard perspective.

Capocaccia
01-20-11, 10:25 PM

If thats what you want to make what I said into then thats fine. But yes, I believe trick specific fixed gear bikes are a devolution of the way the fixed gear bike was made to be ridden. Me saying its not real isnt ignorant. Ignorance is defined by the lacking in knowledge of. Well, I happen to know what people define as "freestyle fixed gear" and I think its as made up as santa. Its a term given to some kids riding who have fun with their bike in a way it might mean to be used. I know it doesnt say no "freestyle fixed gear" allowed but, this community isnt really driven by that type of riding. Also, there is a niche forum JUST FOR YOU! If you are going to ride in a select style, at least go to the forum that caters to it. Heres the link: http://tricktrack.org/forum/

Im really not meaning to be condescending in any way but I feel I make a good point. I dont go my ford mustang forum and start asking about camaros.

EDIT: In reply to Macnab. Youre right. Thats pretty much a general history of street skating evolution. But, youre wrong in the way you understood things. Bikes have their skateboard. Its called BMX. Its not like were riding the first bike ever and these kids are doing the first tricks ever. They are re-inventing the wheel and putting a new name on it. I mean, skateboarding adopted the longboard to be ridden long distances, fast, and carve. They developed a niche for that style of riding. Im just saying if you are going to ride your longboard in the vert ramp dont get made if someone tells you they dont like it. Its not the way things were meant to be done and when you bring it to the wrong venue, it may not be appreciated as well as you want it to be.

Generally, there are two kinds of BMX as well...

Racing:
http://www.digitaljournal.com/img/2/5/7/7/3/3/i/4/6/4/o/BMX_bike_classified_as_toy_must_be_lead_tested_new_law.jpg

And free style...then it branches off to different types of freestyle...
Flatland:

Street/park:

Dirt:
http://bmxduo.lapunk.hu/tarhely/bmxduo/kepek/bmx_dirt_xgames_110706.jpg

This is the same with SSFG...there are the track bikes or faux-track bikes and there are the trick bikes.

Though, I do agree that FGFS isn't all that much versatile because of how big the bike but I don't think it is pointless...it's just people having fun on bikes.

Yes, we all fool around on our bikes...but none of that deserves a video part.

Michael, if you want oohs and aaahs, then show us something that we haven't seen before. Make us say, "Holy sh*t that's hard/amazing/ballsy/etc..." That's exactly what the trials rider dude did for us (can't recall his name).

OK, Michael, let's get you better.

Watch this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw

Understand that what makes that interesting is primarily the skill of the rider. MacAskill does things with a bike that we rarely see and things that 99% of us don't have the balls to even consider trying. Yeah, he pretty much does the same stuff...but it does them BIG and over different obstacles. Different dangerous obstacles. His bike control skills are impeccable. He's smooth.

That's what it takes to impress people these days.

MacAskill does a 180 rooftop to rooftop 15 feet in the air. Mike, your guy does a 180 off of a 2 foot ledge in a skate park. I hope you understand why we aren't impressed with the latter. It may be a big accomplishment for your rider. But, it's not something that the world is gonna go nuts over.

You gotta remember, this is a bike forum. We are going to comment on the bike riding. You photography (aka videography) and editing are pretty good, but nothing ground breaking. So, there aren't any cudos to be had there either. I know that you are anxious to get your name out there. That's pretty obvious. But, this isn't the way. Spend more time learning to shoot and less on hyping yourself up.
