Classic & Vintage - Raleigh Grand Prix build

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I posted a couple of weeks ago about the bike fairy (wife) bringing me home a bike that work colleague gave to her.
It's been stripped down and rattlecanned. Slowly cleaning up the bits and pieces before I pass it along to my daughters boyfriend.

I had to sacrifice the decals since the frame was pretty nicked up but I like how it came out. Curious as to what some of you think of the blue and black.
The boy expressed an interest in a more upright riding style so I looking out for some north road style bars and accompanying brake levers thumbshifters and a clamp on downtube cable stop (hint hint).

Black and blue? For you daugther's boyfriend? Hmm, is that subliminal? Smack him around a bit? Hahaha. Anyway, great job on that paint!! I got a custom made headbadge from headbadges.com. Good stuff. How about thumb shifters on the handlebar? Single speed up front. Derailleur in rear? And fenders.
Didn't think of that but yea, a constant subliminal reminder for him.
Actually I still have the headbadge that I will put back on,

It cleaned up nice, maybe too nice, I lost most of the paint...
Yea, thumbshifters on some North Road style bars is what i'm thinking.
Fenders?, We don't need no stinking Fenders! (i'm in SoCal also)

Fenders make it look so classy though! :) He's not a hipster is he? Oh man.
I've always like those headbadges. Did you repaint the red/black in it?

Hi ATM Dad -
With the black and blue motif, I think some inexpensive black plastic fenders would add a lot aesthetically - if you are going the northroad route, that is.

Sweet. Guess I'm going to have to start a thread for my gf's Super GP now.
He's not a hipster is he? Oh man.
No, he's a nice young fellow. If I didn't like him I would be building it up as a brakeless fixie for him... :innocent:
Haven't repainted the headbadge yet. Is there a particular type of paint that is suited for brass or is model paint like Testors fine to use?

Testors should do great. I haven't decided whether I'm repainting the headbadge on my gf's bike or not.

I'd bet outlining the lugs on the bike would look great. Gold comes to mind, not because it is typically what everyone uses but because it would complement both colors on YOUR frame.
