Hi, I have a nice used CR sakae crank that I would like to polish to like new. It seems to have a plastic like coating that I would like to remove to polish out the imperfections.
Are there any safe chemicals that will remove this coating ( Acetone??) and make this less elboe grease? After removing the coating I could use some form of aluminum polish.
Any suggestions appreciated!

khatfull, first of all great job on re-finishing these cranks. One question, could you let me know what spindle size bottom bracket the Sakae SX cranks take? I have a set of these cranks that I'm working on but I don't know what bottom bracket they came on. I know that some of these cranks came on BB that were not symmetrical (one side longer than the other)... I'm just interested in the drive side dimension. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OldRoadMan, I have found that a Dremmel with the white plastic sponge like polishing insert/wheel to speed up the process quite a bit. The sponge like material is similar to the tough green material found on a Scotchbrite pad. I was able to remove the anodizing off a Shimano 600 crankset and a french Stronglight crankset. It makes it a lot quicker but you want to adjust the speed on it so you get a nice finish that you can hand polish afterwards. Hope this helps.
