Being part of the 2011 Century-A-Month challenge can sometimes be adventurous.
I'll be in the Dallas area on the 23rd or 24th (Wed or Thur)
That's when I'm able to do my February 2011 100-miler.
I know ZERO about Dallas, other than I saw the Stones there once.
A 2x50 route would be best, and a partner or a 30-man peloton to follow would be most excellent.
This old sack of bones is not ready for a straight-on 100, so I'm planning on 50-lunch-50.
If anyone can assist with route or wants to ride one of the legs, I'm all ears.

I'm not sure if I'd be able to ride, having work and all, but I'd love to if I could work it out. I've also got this nagging achilles issue that's kept me from riding much the last 3 months, so my fitness level isn't great...but it's just 100 miles right?
The Collin Classic isn't far from where I live and it has a 52 mile loop. http://www.collinclassic.org/routes.html. It's kinda nice riding a marked course.

Hey Robbie,
I got you covered! I have many rural routes from Plano which is approx. 15mi North of downtown Dallas. I'm on the East side. I have smooth, low traffic routes which have so far been very cyclist friendly. I should be able to supply a map at least, but very possible I can ride a loop with you. Not sure if I would have time for two. Let me know if you need this info.

Dunno if I could ride with you, but I would be interested in meeting for lunch if you are so inclined. I'd also be interested in seeing those maps from Plano. I live in East Plano (downtown) as well and love route knowledge.

I am jealous of all of you.
Just so you know, I think your craigslist has had more gems pop up than any other city in Texas.

Maybe I should bring my checkbook.
While I don't see a screamingly good deal on there at the moment, previous awesome deals included...
1) Japanese Bianchi w/full 600 for $50ish.
2) Schwinn Peleton 2002 w/Ultegra for $90.
3) Francesco Moser w/Campy C-Record for $200 (some guy's flipping it for $475 now - claiming a $275 tuneup? Please...)
4) Team Miyata w/DA and 600 for $250 (got it for my brother a year back)
I think I bothered brockd for the first 3 :P. He graciously offered to get them, but they were all snatched up too fast.
Some half-decent ones there (at least in terms of Austin prices)

I'll be down there boys!
Hide your Italian bikes, I've got a buck or two in my accounts.
...and I've got family just outside of Austin to help ship it!
Hey Chuckk, do you have anymore Zullos hiding in garages?
I would take a black one like yours in a heartbeat.

To me, a straight-on 100 or a 50-lunch-50 are both pretty much the same thing...a long hard day!

So far, everything looks like arriving Tuesday or Wednesday night in Dallas, I'll keep updates here.
I may bring two bikes, maybe one. I probably have an appointment in Wiley somewhere in there....

There are some good deals on CL here, but you have to be quick. I got my Univega Ultraleggera (full DA STI) for 120 - and it almost got sold out from under me.

Our bikes arrived in Kerrville this morning.
Kerrville isn't so far from Austin or San Antonio, and it's where we will stay.
Our riding group will be there in force, and I have a major ride planned with them on Thursday afternoon, and again on Friday morning.
I am primarily heading down for a family visit with my parents and siblings, but will plan on spending one day at the show as well.
My mom is planning lots of fun things to do for her grandson, Will, and I am still unclear how much additional riding time I will really have around Austin.
Other than group rides with the guys that is.
I'm playing this really loose, but would love to meet you guys if possible for at least a giant plate of Texas BBQ!
.....or enchiladas. :)

Sounds like fun! I'm about 30 minutes north of Dallas up in Denton. I would love to meet Robbie, the Ironman Master.
Pun intended.
The DoubleDATES (http://www.doubledates.com/) half-century ride from this fall here (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/195554).
Quiet, scenic roads, small towns with services. Enough climbing to keep it interesting. ;)
Full century route here (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/196231).
I know that the PBA has a number of century routes on the website, I'll see if I can dig up the links for you Robbie.
btw, if Robbie is going to be Dallas a few days prior to the NAHBS trip, perhaps a Wed evening BF's C&V crew dinner before some of us head for Austin and the rest wait eagerly for the photos be posted?

Update.
My Feb century is under my belt, so the pressure to do one in Dallas is off.
Now, that 52-mile ride sounds like a perfect situation.
Given the additional daylight and having the whole day to kill, a century is not off the table.
If the Packers win, I'll need someone to video me dancing in front of the stadium.
I am very up for a Wednesday C&V crew dinner before some head for Austin.
I am very up for lunch with anyone on Thursday, or a ride, or two rides.
Thanks everyone for their assistance.

Count me in for a Wednesday dinner for sure. Maybe a ride during one of the days depending on babysitter. I would say fried pickles and a malt beverage for sure!!!!

CHANGE
I was overly optimistic.
I left Friday for WI, got there pretty late, had to leave yesterday at noon due to weather, so I'm back in NC.
2450 miles round trip, I'm a little bushed. Ice driving yesterday took it's toll......
I have a teen son at home, with all that entails...
I can rest up tomorrow, get ready to drive to TX Wednesday, but it's another 1250 miles just to Dallas, so I think I'm going to stabilize things at home for tomorrow and Wednesday, make the drive on Thursday, through to Austin or pretty close, so I can be there in good time for Friday and get situated for Saturday.
Just not sure I will tolerate another 1250 miles so close to just getting off the road.
Wednesday is just too far out from Friday, and too darn close to today.
I thought I was made of steel. Guess it's just the bikes..
Please forgive me for jumping the gun....
