Classic & Vintage - Nouvo Record mounting?

I was given a Legnano and a box of parts. There is a Crane GT long-cage on the bike. The bike shop said the cage was bent; however, in the box there was a Campy NR patent 73 rear derailleur. The photographs I have seen online do not depict a hanger bracket. However, on Ebay someone is selling an NR hanger bracket.

My question is how does the Nouvo Record mount to the rear fork? Do I need a hanger bracket for the NR patent 73 short-cage derailleur?

I am new to this forum and vintage bicycles. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I assume your Legnano does not have forged dropouts with an integral derailleur mounting eye (the big threaded hole). If it doesn't have one, you need a hanger bracket, also called a claw. The one from the Crane should work. It might or might not be the same as the on Campy would have used. But I'd bet very few new frame builds put a claw on a NR in any year. Upgraders, yes, but not so much from new bike builders.

I've used them (Shimanos and Campys) interchangably. I think the Italian bolt is very slightly different in it's threading than the Japanese and you may have to push kinda hard with the wrench. Not different enough to be a problem, really. I think I read that on Sheldon Brown but I can't find it now.

This old Legnano (http://www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpeeds_1/Feature_Bicycles/Feature_Bicycles_Itlay/Legnano/Legnano_Green/Legnano_Green_1_Introduction.htm) is fitted with a Campy claw. They are easy to install and, yes, you can use a Shimano one but the threads are not identical. That said, the threaded hole is not deep enough to hinder using either.

The Campy claw is ofter found with their entry level derailleurs, which are not all that hard to find.

I love those old Velox derailleurs.... They may be junk, but super cool. I wouldn't use a Valentino, but I'd use a Velox with pride.........

Campy uses bizarre,mutant 10mm x 26tpi thread; Shimano is ISO, which is 10mm x 1.0. These are very close, but as you note, not identical.
