Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I wanted to put a real vauge title on here like "new toy arrives" or some such nonsense. but since we can't, or atleast I never figured how to, edit a posting title.

anyway I am sure some of you saw this little item on the apprasail threads. well I have been wanting a TT/Funny Bike for awhile now and when I saw this I just manuvered to get ahold of it. also there is a good chance that although Bertoni was Univega's "Boutique Label" it was built by Bianchi.

the Olympiad is a '86 with a Columbus SL frame, full Super Record group sans hubs. the wheels are, atleast according to the brochure are Ambrosio disc wheels. the frame and the wheels were repainted at one time. the seller apparently worked for Cycle Art and was going to do a wild paintjob but decided to use the stock color instead, and also painted the wheels to match. the stem is Cinelli and the bars TTT.

i have not had a chance to assmeble it yet, I ran out this afternoon and met a BFr who was in town on business, nice guy. I'll get it together tomorrow

BTW, I am on the hunt for a nice 650c front wheel clincher or tubular or a good condition rim

It's probably better that you didn't... :)

What a beauty that Bertoni is, congratulations! Do you plan to ride it much? My back usually hurts when I just look at funny bikes...

Hi Chris, thank you. yes I do plan to ride it a few times a year, I am sure a few times is all my back will allow. I am looking for a new wheel or a rim I can use for the front so I don't have to ride those beautiful disc wheels all the time.

with work and the weather it was tough getting this outside for some pics. but I finally got a front tire and a day of sunshine in the high 40s.

I have not done much but assemble this and look at it. I am afraid to adjust the brakes, which are pretty good now, for fear of scratching the wheels.

I think I covered all the basics in the original post SL frame and full SR group with highly polished 175mm cranks with conventional 42/53 rings. the wheels are Ambrosio disc repainted but no decals, and the hubs are Gipiemme hubs. OH the cheap pedals have to go. (now I wish I had the 600 spd pedals I sold last year :().

Wow! Stunning!

But it looks as if only a very flexible racer could ever ride the thing. And only on a day with either no wind, or at least no cross winds!

BG, post a video of you riding this. I want to see it in action.

well I do hope to ride it a few times a year, as for the wind, I am working on spoked wheels for it. I do have confidence in thos old disc I just don't want to make the ugly looking with brake wear.

a video? I'll need a camera person but I'll work on it.

Love it! The Columbus panto'd Italian flag colored shifters are especially cool.

Wow what a beast, I like it. The only time I rode a disc wheel I was afraid I'd break it too. The feeling is quite strange.

I can't wait for spring and to give it a try. I am sure it will be awkard at first.

Holy crap! That is something else. The sheer mono-space of those disc wheels is borderline breath-taking! That bike is amazing!

I dig that seat too.

Cornering is handful. I lost it taking a corner too hot. Yard sale....
