Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Help me ID this frame..... and find a frame for a girl...

Hey everyone. Wondering if you might be able to help me identify what kind of frame this might be. I'm in the market for a frame for my girlfriend. I want to build her something like this bike, but since she's a bit shorter, I don't want to sacrifice the geometry and buy a smaller frame that has an awkward slanting top tube like you see in the Kilo TT frames and other smaller frames. Any suggestions on smaller frames (in the 50ish cm range) that will still keep a similar geometry when they drop in size? Is that even possible? She's about 5'7" if that helps. On a tight budget too. I've been looking at the Scrambler V3 frames that are only $127 right now... and I love that price. Thanks for any help!

If she's 5'7 I dont think you need to worry too much about finding a "small" frame for her.

My lady is 5'6" and rides a 52.3 cm effective TT length pretty comfortably.

Hmm cool. Thanks for the advice on the frame size too guys. Yeah I guess she's really not that short ha. The Eighth Inch Scramblers are on Ebay for $127 with shipping included... so hard to not just buy one right now even though I don't have the cash.... photoshopping like crazy right now to see how it'd look done up as a townie.

I am a girl. And I'm 5'6. And I have a 49cm Steamroller. It fits me pretty well, but it's on the edge of being too small, so your girlfriend would probably do better with a 53cm, which is the next size up for the steamroller. The tt on my bike actually slopes less than the scrambler's, but that scrambler deal sounds pretty sweet.

After I found that pic, I jumped into photoshop... and started hacking away, mixing and matching. Mixed the first bike I posted with this bike (one of my all time favorite builds:

not a whole lot more expensive than the scrambler.

I think the Phoenix would make a rather nice townie, they even suggest as such. It has mounts for a rack and fenders, and clearance for reasonable tires, what more do you want?

Don't buy a frame that you're unsure of especially when you're not sure what size will fit your GF. First thing you should do is at least an online fit calculator of some sort so you can know her dimensions and apply them to a frame. Better yet would be to test ride a couple sizes but if you're buying online that's gonna be difficult.

I will ask though are you sure she wants a bike or is this your idea of surprising her with something you're into? cause I've seen this story play out many times when a guy thinks it's cool to build up a bike and it just ends up parked against a wall and used as a clothes hanger. Just wondering, either way good luck.

Yeah, I agree. I just found out that Wounded Knee's girl is around 5'2.... and she rides the 51cm frame, which is what i originally thought would be good for my gf. Definitely need to do more research and do a proper fitting for her before I buy. I just emailed eighth inch for their advice as well.

And yes, I'm positive that she want's a bike. No surprises here. We might be moving to NYC together eventually, and I definitely want to be able to ride with her. I hate taking the underground when I know I can bike, so hopefully she'll get more into cycling to get around too. Thanks for the concern though. I'd hate to put all this effort and money into something she wouldn't use.... Although... I'm may be realizing that with eighth inch's sizing... we might ride the same size frame, so I could be using her bike too... hmmm. is that selfish of me?.... ha
