Hello everyone!

This is my first post, and I realy need your help...

I bought this Raleigh back in August and I realy enjoing riding it.

The thing is that I can't find which model the bike is nor the Year that was made.

I've checked all the possible plases (under the bottom bracket, front-side of seat lug, left drop out). Nothing! No Serial Number detected nowhere! :mad:

The only numbers that I found were in the down-left and Up-right side of the head tube...

I think tha probably it is a Grand Prix, but the absence of the "brake cable stop", makes me wonder...

Any ideas?

It certainly looks like a 70's Grand Prix frame to me - the lugs and the seat stays wrapping over the lug at the seat tube indicate this.

The absence of the brake cable bridge on between the rear stays does confuse matters - but I suspect that it was removed, and the frame repainted at one point. At least the graphics are not original, as I would think they would have included the model-name on the top tube regardless of the market it was sold in.

As you have probably already surmised, practically nothing else is original on this bike. The rear derailleur has me wondering though - It looks like a Campy Valentino but the red bolt heads with a Carlton "C" really mystify me!

Hmmmm. C nuts sometimes showed up on Calrton Raleighs, but then I think they also show up on some Campagnolo derailers. Grand Prix sounds good to me, there were also some Records that claim to be from Carlton.

What's the seatpost diameter?
Looks like a good bike, fun the way it is or lots of potential for rearanging to suite your taste.

Sheldon Brown says that in the early '70s, midle-end bikes like Grand Prix, were using Campanoglo Valentino Extra...
So, I suspect that it's a Grand Prix after all.
But, if someone removed the brake cable bridge, wouldn't that be obvious?

One of three places. Either under the BB, Near the top of the seat tube, or on/near one of the rear dropouts. If the bike was repainted, it might be tough to find.

help! I need somebody....HELP!

Any markings on the seatpost that might indicate the seat tube diameter? It would almost certainly be either 26.x or 25.x. (Very outside chance it would be 27.x) If we know the seatpost diemeter, it will help us know what sort of tubing the frame is made of (20-30, or reynolds 531, 501, or Chrome Moly of some sort).

Did you take the rear wheel off and check the dropout for a serial number? Knowing what year it is really helps to narrow down the possibilities of what Model it was.

One more thing. What does it say (if anything) on the head badge?

There was no head badge when I bought it. But there are three holes there, probably indicading that had a Raleigh badge (?)

You're telling me that I have to check the inside of the dropout to see if there is a Serial Number?...

First thing in the morning I'll measure the seat tube and I'll let you know.

I measured today the seatpost diemeter.

2.6cm is what I've got...

By inside, I mean the side facing the rear wheel.

Given the size of the seatpost, and your other observations, I share your suspicion of it being a Grand Prix.
