Looking at it I would think it's safe but then again I've never used one and I've never seen another person using one, so........... maybe that says something.

its aluminum all the way through, but it is coated in rubber apparently made by Ferrari.

i think it's pretty awesome, and i can use both 26.0 and 26.4 bars in it.

ok well this thing is a POS.

tried using it with a 26.4 cinelli giro d'italia drop bar and it wouldn't get tight enough. i made a makeshift shim...no go. then when i was opening it up, the aluminum cracked in half in the middle of the ridged section.

i was going to put this setup on my windsor to be ironic. back to nitto and 25.4.

Got it to add to my Weinmann Delta brake set to start a polished silver and black group:

The group might eventually end up on my polished silver and black Vitus Carbone.
Always had some doubts about these hinged stems but I just had to get this one as it looks like a nice match to my Wienmann Deltas. Not sure if ITM figured out their design better than Cinelli, but I guess I really have to be careful as this ITM could be a "Death Stem" too.:twitchy:

yours looks a bit more robust than mine. just be very gentle opening and closing. oil/grease the hinge before you start working with it.

hopefully you can get it to clamp down hard enough. if you look at my image above, the aluminum ridge part inside the rubber is actually RECESSED slightly. according to my helpful wife, this is probably what is causing it not to tighten. you won't have that issue.
