Classic & Vintage - Help me identify these Campagnolo parts I landed today

These are off the 1984 Schwinn Paramount I somehow beat the horde to on the Boston CL today. The rest of the components are easy enough, Shimano 600EX brake levers/calipers, Superbe Pro shifters, front derailleur and seat post. It has some abominable adjustable height stem with Cinelli bars, but that might be ok for now as it turned out to be only 57cm CTC (570 stamped on the Cinelli BB). I haven't figured out the wheels yet.

I'll see whether I want to brave the cold tomorrow for photos. It is filthy and well used (the bent drop out screws are apparent, the front caliper could use a new QR assembly, all the paint chips seem shiny, chromed frame?).

Kurt, the serial number on the NDS dropout is A8422 (22 not clear, fades into contour). The DS dropout has portacatena (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/662574-Campagnolo-Portacatena-Pictures) holes. Clamp on front derailleur. Columbus sticker is missing the useful half. Over BB routing.

No, Super Record and Nuovo Record shared the same crank arms. The difference was in the rings. Those are Nuovo Record chainrings and hence would be a Nuovo Record crank, but yes from 74'

Yes, that is a Super Record rear derailleur, second version.

Difference in headsets is SR used aluminum and Nuovo Record used all steel. Grab a magnet and touch the headset. If it sticks it is NR.

The strongest fridge magnet I had handy doesn't seem to react to the headset.

That's definitely an alloy Super Record headset - check out the engraved lockring.

Technically, that's a 3rd Gen Super Record rear derailleur - note where the cage spring is located - at the bottom, sunken into the back plate.

Fantastic find on your Paramount!

The "A" in the serial number means built in January of 1984 and it was the 22nd framset. I'm assuming it has the rainbow decals like my black '83. By mid 1984 the decals were switched to the 1980s and 1990s standard style, so your Paramount is near to the end of the Rainbow line.

Another interesting transition which occurred at the end of '84 was the switch to under the BB cable routing. This white November '84 has the standard decals and top cable routing.

Apparently in 1981, when the "Elite" Paramounts were launched, also using the Henry James investment cast lugs.

Although, Waterford must have also been helping with using up the remaining Reynolds 531 stock. I've seen a couple of Elites built in 531. Most of the stock was used to build the '81-'83 Superiors.

Bah! What was the deal with schwinn and their paramounts? reflectors galore and a dork disk on a so called high end racing bike? were these just marketed to recreational riders or did people actually race these?

Law, I believe dictates that the manufacturer provide reflectors front, rear and on both wheels. Once you purchase it you can do what you will. Obviously some purchased as a street rider, some for racing.

I'm betting most people willing to pay the price for one of the re-introduced Paramounts were pretty serious cyclists.
