Here is the question?

Did I blow it...

I went and took a look at Ciocc Designer 84 with mostly complete campy 50th anniversary group.

Frame was a 7/10 with a slight dent/ding in top tube and fair amount of rust/pitting on the chrome fork and rear triangle. Components were in good shape.

Needed new tires, tubes, cables, bar table and a complete overhall tune and lube

Guy didn't know what he had and wanted someone to make an offer... I offered $450 but didn't have cash in hand but said I'd come back the next day. He sold it the next day to another guy for $475... essentially using my offer to get a higher offer.

The frame was nice but I mainly wanted the campy 50th components. If he would have asked for 475-$500 I probably would have given it to him.

Any way its not to often I come across higher end vintage stuff so I keep telling my self I should have scooped it up.

Any opions or condolences appreciated.

You blew it. $750-1000 depending on how complete the 50th group was.

Lesson learned always arrive with cash on hand...

50th group was the rear and front D, cranks, pedals, brakes, seat post, I do not believe the hubs where and the break levers were shimano 105. I'm sure the guy who go it will put the group on ebay.

Another day another bike

I believe you were beaten to it by another BF member who bought it for the group because he wanted to build a bike with it. So, that still sucks for you, but at least it's staying 'in the family' as it were instead of just going to a picker.

I figured that might have been the case... I would have put the group on my Tommasini but I'm glad it went to a bf member. I feel I know most of the bike guys in my town but this guy came down from Wyoming. It was just that the seller essential used my offer to get an extra $25 out of the next guy with out giving me a counter offer chance which he said he would do...

but as the saying goes... cash talks... bs goes home without a cool bike

I've got to many as it is but this was the nicest vintage campy group I've seen in person and had at my finger tips.
