In the massachusetts area. I am a college student looking to do some shorter tours over spring break and was interested if anyone knew of any routes and/or places I could go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not that I'm from MA or anything but check out

They are Rubel and publish very nice bike suitability maps of the entire state, depending on how long you have, you could ride out to the Berkshires, or ride north into the White Mountains or Ride to Maine... Sheesh, lots of options! How long do you want to go? You could ride and take the ferry to Martha's Vineyard or so and explore the islands for a short tour.
You're post is very wide ranging :) What timeframe are you looking at, it's getting dark early and if you go north, it's getting quite cold at night, if you're a camper.

I don't know when you get spring break, but I've found crossing Connecticut along its northern boundary to be delightful in May. Almost no traffic for much of it, and nice, woodsy roads with plenty of places to bivouac if you camp.
Starting in Putnam and going up to North Woodstock, take 197 west, and continue on 190, 159 (Windsor Locks), 401, 20, 219, 381. Go north From Pleasant Valley to Riverton (Hitchcock chair factory), and then down to 44, continuing west as far as the NY border if you like. Then turn around and plot a scenic return trip via other backroads in the northern reaches of the state.
I've ridden round trip to Provincetown from here in eastern NY. I didn't particularly enjoy riding the parts of RI and MA (west of the Cape) that I happened to pick. If you drive to the CT border and start there, allow 4 days to cross east-to-west and back, or more if you like to spend much time off the bike.
