Southeast - Assault On Mount Mitchell Codes

Congrats! The passcodes are just for Freewheelers members, right? Registration for everyone else is still a few weeks away if I am not mistaken. No rush for me though...I'm still deciding if I want to do it again this year.

Pass codes are for members and reg. for members is from Feb 1 thru Feb 15th. There usually are a few hundred slots available on the 15th when the reg is open to all comers. Usually fills very quickly that date tho. This is for the ride to the top off MM. There is no limit to ride the 75 miles to Marion which is below the Blue Ridge Parkway. Since you have riden it before, I know you know but info is given for others who may be readin. Even tho this is quit a challenge, the club and its volunteers make it an exciting and fun event. IMHO it is unlike any other bicycleing event.

I agree with that! I would encourage anyone who might be reading this to do the Assault at least once. Every volunteer that I came in contact with on the ride was very friendly and helpful...and the riding on the Parkway is incredible. A few of the climbs hurt a little (including that last section in the park), but it the views and the whole experience make it worthwhile.

Been there done that, many times. Got the t-shirts. I don't plan to do anymore point to point rides. They are a logistical pita. Just MHO of course. It is also my opinion that the overall amenities and support on the AoMM have really taken a step back compared to say ten years ago. But, that said, everyone should try it once due to the iconic status of the ride.

I've pondered doing this, but thanks to the registration hoops and the other pain in the butt factors it hasn't happened yet.

I just registered. Well, I think I screwed up my registration, but I think I'm at least in the system. (Waiting on an email back).

Nothing like that turn onto Route 80 knowing its you versus the mountain for about the next 2-3 hours!

Kind of like getting most of Mt. Evans (except the altitude) with a long warm-up!

On the serious side, are you guys saying if you join the Freewheelers you get to do early registration, even if an out of state member?---I am from Florida and haven't rode in a number of years and I know getting in not having rode in a while can be tough.

Registration has changed from years past, and it's a bit easier to get in now. You should be able to get a code, even if you do not join as a Freewheeler. It's just first come first serve now, so once the website is opened up, then as long as it doesn't fill up and you were one of the first to the punch, you should be good to go. Just as a freewheeler, you are basically confirmed an entry, because they usually fill up about 50% of the ride with just freewheelers in the two weeks leading up to the public entries.

I'll be doing it again next year. 28th this year, going for top-10 next year!

Don't know if you saw in another thread someone combined MT Mitchell with Brasstown Bald on back to back days I believe-----perhaps cause Mitchell fell on a Monday? Not sure, but that seems like a crazed idea---almost as bad the the GA 10 Gaps.
