I will be buying a cyclocross bike before the end of the year. Initially it will be for better handling on the delightfull winter streets of chicago but I would also like to look into cyclocross...tracks...trails...(forgive my lapse in vocab), but definitly racing eventually. Does anyone know of any cyclocross locations in the chicagoland area...anywhere in Illinois for that matter. I've heard that there's a place in Naperville but nothing specific.

Sorry for being vague, but I remember getting an e-mail advertisement for a big cyclocross race in downtown chicago. I'm not really familiar with Chicago and deleted the msg after skimming it, but I think it said it was near the musuems (the ones near the Shedd Fish Display?) there. I also forgot the date, but I'm sure the stores in your neck of woods would have more details.

I've ridden the Des Plaines River trail on my MTB and CX. The South end of the trail starts right near North Ave and 1st Ave in Melrose Park. A friend and I rode the south section of the trail and the whole loop was a little over 22 miles.
