Folding Bikes - Swift folded size....with seat+front wheel removed?

I need a strong frame folder like the Swift but id like to be able to carry it aboard L.A buses (inside of a bag), but im not sure if its practical. Im wondering if anyone has measured the folded Swift with seat-post/front wheel removed? I can carry the front wheel separately. Any folded pics would be great!

thanks Lexm....i think the folded Swift might be too big for bring on the bus. Might as well buy another Montague, its very close to the same size folded.

Much lighter? Are you sure about that? here's a 17.5 lb/7910 custom Hummer. Look at the top left corner digital scale reading. Only 17.5 pounds....and it has GEARS too.

That is indeed a very light Hummer. Lighter than my Swift. That proves you can get that type of frame bike very light. But it does not prove a Montague is lighter than a Swift which stock is 22# while a Montague stock is around 29# or heavier depending on which model.

my guess is that you'd want to remove the front wheel and put it in a duffel bag for taking on the train. it's a bit big of a fold otherwise.

that said, it's a rather narrow fold (because the bike doesn't fold in half), so that may help. works great on the train b/c you can just lean it up against a wall and it doesn't take up much space

a Brompton is under 24x24x12 inches folded.. #5, thats a 26" Wheel..

so cannot be folded up smaller than its own wheel..

I just noticed just how narrow teh Swift folds, with quick release pedals it just might be the narrowest folder on the market, which makes me wonder why they don't offer a
'xootr back pack' becouse with the wheel+seatpost removed it's 32"X24.5x10.5" which would make for a large backpack profile.....that would sneak past bus driver's scrutiny with ease!

I have a Swift and I use an 18x42 duffel bag to store the bike in my trunk (wheel and seatpost removed). I can tell you that the Swift website is correct; the bike will definitely fit into such a bag (albeit with a fair bit of cajoling), but the end result is HUGE. Seriously, it takes up more than half the space of my 16 cu.ft. trunk. On the bus? Good luck! Maybe if you told the driver it's actually a cello...

The Swift is a small bike that was designed to fold quickly into something shorter (but not necessarily smaller), such that it can easily fit into a closet or leaned against the wall out of the way (the narrow-ness of the bike shines here especially). On a train, it would still need to go to the bike or luggage car, and on the bus...well, it was designed with bike messengers in mind so not really optimized for that mode of travel. Note that the Swift's wheelbase is the same length as that of full-size bikes so using the bike rack on the front of the bus should be no problem.

If you absolutely have to bring your bike on board a bus, I would stay away from the Montague and Swift and instead look at the Brompton (or possibly the Tikit, but that's already getting a little big).

I'm not sure about this HUMMER frame, but it looks similar to the one used on the current Paratrooper model. That bike is factory specced at 29lbs, so we are talking about a 11.5lb difference! Maybe that's the reason the bike can stand up on its own without at any visible means of support ;) Do you have any info on the componentry, etc.?

more photos and component specs. KCNC all over, mrazek brakes, dura ace and xtr derailleurs, carbon fork, ti and al bolts. pricey components on this one.

Check out the Tikit with heavy rider upgrade. The long stem is a bit flexy, but the upgrade adds more material to make it stiffer. Overall, the consensus is that the Tikit is pretty strong (steel frame).

The Swiss Bike, Paratrooper, Hummer are all the same Montague frame with cheap, heavy components. The frame itself is relatively light. Just like the Montague, the 1st thing people do when they buy a SWIFT is start swapping out components.
