Touring - My tour across europe

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The summer of 2010 I embarked on a journey across the great continent of europe. Starting in Amsterdam I started my trek across 7 countries (Holland, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France and Spain in order) to Barcelona. It took me and 9 friends (we are all 16 years old) 22 days, averaging 95 miles a day with a rest/exploration day every 5 days. Wake up time: 4:30 am to avoid the heat. Total mileage: 1550 miles. Our goal was to see the real small time europe and avoid tourist places. We slept under the stars and brought tents, sleeping bags, all of our clothes and food in our panniers and racks. We climbed Col de madone, Tourmalet, and endless mountains in the Swiss alps and Pyrenees. All on our rugged 45+ pound touring bikes. This journey opened all of our eyes and will never be forgotten. Our friendships were sealed forever. Just wanted to share :)

Have to wonder how 10 sixteen year olds would fair wandering about the US trying to gain admission to campgrounds or findng a place to wild camp?
How about elaborating on how you managed this? Any problems with authorities?

Luxembourg!
I would love to see some pictures, glad to see that many 16 year olds had the motivation and fitness level to average 95 miles/day. Awesome

Good for you folks! Way to go, way to be strong.
In the US now, it's be afraid! Be very afraid! They'd call CPS on my parents for what I used to do when I was a kid. So sad.
Sounds like an epic journey!! I'm with the others; I'd love to see some pics, hear some stories
