Pizza is a fine recovery meal. You know, how much you eat would depend on how long you rode and all...

but Pizza does not take the place of a good carb/protein shake immediately after you finish your ride. Its probably not ready to eat, and it will absord slower than a shake.

I would say that it depends on what toppings you select. If you get the extra cheese, stuffed crust, meat-lovers XXXXL size, and eat it all - it may not be the best for recovery.

And I say, that after a long ride, the more toppings the merrier. And eat the whole ****ing thing! Maybe not every day...

Bad.

Too much fat. Try w/o cheese or sprinked parmesian instead.

Fat is your friend. As long as you aren't eating a diet thats really high bad fats, a Pizza now and again, covered with soggy meat and mounts of cheese, is good. The benefits that you will reap from overfeeding post-ride are enormous.

Again, its not something to do all the time or you will get fat. But if there is one time where a Pizza is okay, its post-ride. All those calories will get put to good use.

I hate to admit it, but I also shot down an entire large pizza yesterday about an hour after a hard ride. Do what I say, not what I do! :o

After I take a nap, I will post some articles on the wonders of overfeeding :)

I like feta cheese on pizza and I stick right in the fridge. I like cold pizza WAY more than hot.

I was eating pizza posting @ 3am yesterday, finished for lunch 1 hour ago.

I'm hungry.

Recovery?- from what? drinking beer?

A buddy on mine made it onto the Canadian national track team on a diet of plain bagels, protein shakes, bananas and cheese pizzas.

Throw in a whey protein shake and it's probably not that bad. Whey protein cures a lot of evils in the diet  .

Optimum Nutrition Pro-Complex is probably the best out there.....$35 for 4.4 lbs mail order.

I actually get paid $5 to eat Papa John's pizzas (mystery shopping). Believe it or not, you actually get tired of it after a while.

Don't get me wrong....pizza kicks ass!!

When you say plain bagels, does that mean no cream cheese? Because i eat like 3 bagels with cream cheese everyday (cant cook). bad or good?

Oh... I had the best pizza the other night after a ride... And proceeded to eat almost the entire thing. Kinda embarassing, but damn was it good.

my after a hard ride food is pesto pizza with red onions, honey rosted chicken. Freaking awesome....however garlic does not help my already retardedly low blood presure, and seems to take me down a notch in speed the next day. It's only when I have large amounts of garlic though...so YMMV, but it might be good to lay off the garlic if you choose to down half a 21" pizza.

Well...

This kid apparently thought it was a good enough energy source during a ride too... (http://www.kingcountyjournal.com/sited/story/html/175377) I guess he was training for next year's Seattle to Portland ride.

Four-year-old goes out for pizza run - Boy wanted energy to ride his bike down to Portland to meet dad

NEWCASTLE -- An early-morning pizza order aroused suspicion one day last week, bringing Newcastle police to the QFC store before dawn.

As it happens, at 3:30 a.m., a 4-year-old boy arrived at the store alone, left his bicycle at the front door, and asked the clerk where the frozen pizzas were. Then he asked to borrow money so he could buy one.

The funniest part of the whole thing is this!

Then Yamamoto said he would go get Stephen's bike out of his car, to which Stephen's mother responded, ``Stephen doesn't have a bike.''

``He does now,'' Yamamoto said.

It is still unknown where Stephen got the bike, King County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart said.

Yeah. The kid does follow cycling stories. Looks like he picked up on the Bic trick too. :D

Multigrain bagels right out of the bag. BTW, this guy was a little nuts... I'm not endorsing his training diet. :D

Pizza would definitely be a bad recovery meal. You want to eliminate fats post workout, due to the fact that it slows the digestion of protein. You need protein as soon as possible to get to those muscles and repair them . Along with lots of carbs.

Crunkologist
10-19-04, 09:45 PM
Well, like we said, he definately needs to take a protein shake immediately. Nobody has a Pizza just sitting there piping hot for as soon as you get off the bike, anyway. So its not a replacement for a protein shake, which should occur before any meal... but its a fine recovery meal.

G'day,

'flying' Ryan bayley won 2 gold medals at the recent Athens Olympics. His diet consists of KFC, tim tam's (chocolate coated biscuits) & coke...he's now known as the 'KFC kid' & will likely end up with a sponsorship deal out of it. His skinfolds are amongest the lowest at the Australian Institute of Sport. At the Olympics, apparently coke, as a sponsor, made available vending machines in the athletes village. Each athlete was issued a card that allowed them free access to a maximum of 500 cans. Ryan darnk his whole quota in the 16 days of the Olympics!........now what was that about the importance of diet?
