We are in the sights of a major winter storm, apparently, here in Central Indiana. It's supposed to hit this evening and keep on until Wednesday night. I'll not be surprised if we get a foot of snow out of this.....I know, you downwinders on the Erie Shore and along the other shorelines along the Great Lakes are gonna say..."Only a foot?"

We're supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow and ice up here on Mt. Doom.

Potentially catastrophic winter storm to impact central Indiana, .a strong low pressure system over the western United States will push across central Indiana starting tonight through Wednesday. A variety of winter weather is expected with this system. as the system approaches, cold air will be in place at the surface, however very warm and moist air will be pulled into the system on southerly winds, resulting in warm air aloft. This will result in freezing rain or sleet across much of central Indiana this evening into Tuesday night. As the low passes to our east early Wednesday morning, all of the precipitation will change over to snow. At this time, north and northwest central Indiana, including the cities of kokomo and lafayette look to remain cold enough that a significant portion of the precipitation may fall in the form of snow. However snowfall may be heavy and snowfall amounts in excess of 12 inches are possible by Wednesday evening. Farther south, including the cities of terre haute, Indianapolis, bloomington, new castle and muncie, warm air is expected to be present and precipitation may fall as sleet or freezing rain. Significant ice accumulation is possible, with ice accumulation of one inch or more. Furthermore, strong winds gusting up to 35 mph are expected from late Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. This combination will result in widespread downed trees and power lines. A large area of central Indiana may receive large ice accumulations and strong winds by Wednesday afternoon. This will result in widespread trees down and widespread power outages. Long duration power outages will be possible for many people in central Indiana. Uncertainty still exists with the precise track of this system. Adjustments in the track in later forecasts may have significant impacts on areas that may receive freezing rain or snow. Ice accumulations may result in widespread, long duration power outages. * accumulations: snow accumulation in excess of 12 to 16 inches is possible in northwest central Indiana. Ice accumulations in excess of one inch are possible along and near the interstate 70 corridor. * timing: precipitation is expected to begin Monday evening and continue through Wednesday afternoon. * other impacts: wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph on Tuesday and Wednesday in combination with heavy ice accumulations will likely result in downed trees and power lines.

And the snow just started up a little bit ago. Already have a snow emergency declared, and I'll bet the schools will start closing for tomorrow, within the next hour.

VIPIR weather radar says 5-8" by the end of Wednesday, possibly mixed with freezing rain. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's commute home! (At least, as long as the ghetto fools recognize the conditions -- they seem to think nothing of passing me @ 40+mph about a foot from my bar.)

Well, it's 17 degrees and freezing rain ATM and I LOVE 4wd.. Hopefully, it'll change over to snow again shortly. The roads are danged dangerous. I had to run out to the pharmacy, and on the way home, I pulled 2 cars out of the ditch.

CBus is only getting frozen rain and ice everywhere. I feel lucky.

I already e-mailed in to the instructors that I won't be making my 100 mile round trip to school. They'd only cancel classes the moment I pulled in the parking lot anyway.

Its expected to be 100% snow in Chicago to the tune of 12" to 18" possibly more all falling tue night into wed afternoon. I foresee a snow day from work on Wed!

Well, I have the day off. For the 5th time in a century, Purdue has canceled classes. We have a little break in the storm this morning, but got ice last night and crunchy snow. We're now looking at 16" of snow this afternoon and tonight and tomorrow.

Fun commute home last night, I swear I checked the radar at 4pm and it should have been clear, but got hit with the first ice as I left the office at 5:30 arriving home 6:40 -- I had at least an eighth inch of ice coating my front side and cracked and crinkled when I got off, trying to move my arms to switch off lights and detach the panniers. Too much fun plus a laugh with the ice armor. Work at home today.

My office early today... :) yay! but the snow totals now expected to surpass 20"-24" of snow in the Chicago area! :( Its really starting to come down now and the wind is gusting to 40mph and this is not even the heaviest snow we are expecting. All businesses and retails stores have signs on them saying they will be closed tomorrow. The city had workers dropping off memos to recommend all businesses close at 2pm today and remain closed until thurs. crazy stuff. Anyone out in this storm stay safe!

Pretty much every school, and several businesses, were closed before sunup today. I knew when I saw last night's radar that I wouldn't be pedaling today.

And...I didn't. One step off the front porch assured me of the wisdom of that call. And coming home this evening, making the 1+ block walk from the bus stop was a hazard in itself!

We'll see if I can keep my two appointments tomorrow.....

We're doing 10-15" of snow tonite - with intermixed sleet - oooo CRUNCHY. I'm sure schools will be closed tomorrow. hehe - I had several students ask me late this afternoon if college will be canceled tomorrow. I do not envy working that front desk tomorrow ... if anything classes may be closed, but faculty and staff will report - yay!! but then, I take a bus in (this Winter has been too bad to commute to work, I still do stores and rides) to work so ... meh - I'll take the bus in - but if I'm waiting out in that weather - I'll go in way late - especially if I'm standing out there for 45 minutes or more ....

We seem to be right on the edge of freezing rain. It's freezing on the trees and power lines which is bad news, but on the ground it's a slushy mix. Weird. Power has been flickering. I should have chopped that firewood....

I just hope tomorrow sees temperatures above 0F. Today's high, -6F.

Just started snowing about an hour ago. It's going to be a snowblowericious time tomorrow morning.

We're about to get the backside wraparound now, with the heaviest snow. We have 7" of sleet and snow on the ground right now and it's been mixed sleet and snow, and yes, even some thunder about 20 minutes ago. Winds are dropping at the moment, but it's just because the center of the low is on top of us and we're in the lull. It's about to get nasty again, very soon.

I think the biggest thing I dislike about Fort Worth is the proximity to Tornadoes. You move down south 200 miles and you hardly ever hear any mention of them. Here, however, they are a more regular occurence.

Our city is probably reacting a lot worse to thise 1-3 inches of snow we just got overnight than you guys do with 6+ :p

Was talking to a friend in NY and he's like "you guys have snow in texas?" That was before we just got this inch+ of snow last night. I'll have to send him some photos while he's on vacation in Costa Rica. just to, you know, warm him up.
