Oh scored today. And its my size!!! Why I got rid of that funky Shimano headset tool years ago is beyond me but I won't make that same mistake again. All I needs to change is the saddle, pedals and stem, and maybe freewheel. Sweetness.

Nice pickup. It should be a 1984 model. After being sued by BF Goodrich, Centurion had to change the Comp TA name in 1985. It morphed into the Dave Scott Ironman.

The guy had a small tiny pix of a Red/White Ironman and when I called he said "oh, that's not the picture of the bike, it says "comp ta" on it. Why do they do that on CL?
Anway, I'm happy cause Centurion brings back memories for me.

lucky bastid.

what a find. The BH Turbo was OEM to it.

now get rid of that ridiculous stem.

awesome.

aargh.

I know right, hokey stem. But hey, I'm sure the guy had some good times on the bike. My friends in the 80's swore on the Vette Turbo. I was more of a Cinelli #3 saddle back then. I think I have a 6 speed straight block I can stick on that wheel.

My guess is that your bike was stolen recently, so he put up a pic of a very similar bike to hook someone like you (a centurion enthusiast) without the owner finding the ad, meeting him somewhere, and beating him for 20 minutes to half an hour.

It's standard procedure for bike thief flippers. I mean, you can't safely list the recently stolen bike, but you gotta sell it somehow, no?

ps-btw, very nice bike!

Haha. M-a-y-b-e. But I'm going the high road and giving him the benefit of the doubt :)
He did say, when I called him that it has great Shimano 600 parts on it so he knew what that was.

Can you think of another reason why someone would list a very similar-yet-definitely-different bike on craigslist? The tiny thumbnail pictures suggest he got em from images.google.com or similar...

35cm? :twitchy:

Haha, no 48cm. Anything under 50cm is good for me. It has 38cm handlebars though which are too small for me. But they are mint!!. I'm pretty sure its 25.4 bars too cause it slips on my Origin 8 26.0 stem. I was looking for 26.0 bars last night and saw an ad for Easton EA 30's for $8.99 from Pricepoint! Score!!! Plus, free shipping. 16 bucks for EA30's and cork bar tape.

Darn Shimano 600 brake hoods split when I pulled it back. Really, 40 bucks for Shimano 600 hoods? Oh come on!

Very sweet find. Congrats!
Please...we gotta have a parts breakdown on this beauty. What is the story on the dark chain ring? It looks like a close color match to the anodized Araya rims? Suzue hubs on either end like the turbo? The Comp TA has the same frame as the Turbo right? If so, all it takes besides paint and decals to turn a Comp TA into a Turbo is a swap from all Shimano 600 everything to all Suntour Superbe drive with Grande Comp brakes & levers. By the way, what's wrong with the stem? It looks original so why not keep it? Ditto with the saddle. If you decide to upgrade I may be able to help you defray part of the cost. I'm looking to build a parts stock for this era of Centurion. Please let me know if you want to get shed of any parts from this bike (seriously).

The Comp TA has a Tange Champion 2 frame and the Turbo has a Tange Champion 1 frame.

No way that stem is OEM. It should have an CR stem that looks a lot like this stem.

Nice find. I have the following year Ironman(85). It's wearing the same parts for the most part.

If you look at original shimano hoods crosseyed they will split, I recently split one putting on new bar tape. Have you found any cheaper out there? Cause I'm looking as well.
