Classic & Vintage - Anybody have a purple Gitane TDF?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. This won't be of interest to many, if any, here but I went looking for a bit of touch up paint for my early 70's Gitane Tour de France, called "criterium violet" in the catalog if memory serves, and found a NEAR perfect match at the local hobby shop. Brand of enamel is Model Master. Color is called Plum Crazy with a number on it 2750. Perhaps just a HINT too red but awfully close. Nearly spot on. I plan to adjust the color just a tad with a drop or two of dark blue. Anyway, anyone can let me know if they need touch up paint for their Gitane and can't find it. Send me a PM. OK.

I have a candy apple red TdF frame that seriously needs a respray, I was considering going with violet. I'd love to have an automotive paint number that would match. Violet was a relatively uncommon color, I don't recall many when I worked in the LBS that sold Gitane.
I have always liked violet bikes, I must be in the minority.

I recall it as a very common color for Interclubs, maybe the most popular after green(at least in my 'hood)...looks even better on a TdF
Thanks for the tip. I have one waiting to be fixed up. I wonder if the Plum crazy color is the same used on Mopars.
As you can see I may need a bit touching up this one.

(And how come you change your icon almost everyday?) Fixing 'er up a bit Auchencrow. Will post pics when I get it ship shape. Was pretty scraped up on the stays and forks. It was a toss up whether to just leave it but, I'm forging on. That head decal was the only one on it aside from the little "professional tour de france" silver foils on the downtube. Got some new ones applied last week. The touch up is going to require some rub out when spring rolls around. Coming together. Slowly.
Oh , and, as for my icon. Heck...I dunno. Just fooling around with different pics. I see that's sort of non-standard practice here, eh? I should maybe just pick one and stick with it. What I'd LIKE to change is my user name! Plucked that strange moniker out of the air in haste in '05 when I signed on thinking I was just staying long enough to get some ID help on a bike. And here I am... forever rootboy . heh.

It may be a Mopar color. Seems it's in the "car" dept in the model paint rack. I was surprised how close it was. Your bike looks just like mine, but looks almost blue in these pics. Must be the flash. I need one of those stems.

Kobe – Rootboy - This is the Plum Crazy I remember –
Can your TdF’s be anywhere near that purple?!

That looks pretty close A-crow, but the bike looks a shade darker.

The fluorescent lights are making mine look blue. It is closer to this plum crazy Challenger. Just a bit darker, less Barney.

My Kobe Capri was originally this color. After 2 rattle can repaints it is now green, but I think next winter I am going to have it powder coated the original purple.
