yes we need pics and posting a question about the JC Higgins (a baseball player that endorsed stuff for Sears yes?) crankset is just as useless without pics.

unless the bike is goldplated you do not have a rare find worth million bucks.

I would venture to guess it is a bolt action

It's a pump. Less common than the bolt-actions. I am pretty sure it was actually made by High-Standard and rebranded JC Higgins before being sold at Sears.

Something don't sound right when you mention JC Higgins and Motobecane on the same bike, Sears had some bikes made by Puch or Astro Daimler in Austria about 45 or so years ago but I don't think Motobecane ever got into the Sears mix. It sounds like maybe someone's been swapping parts around?

[QUOTE=Bianchigirll;12165819]yes we need pics and posting a question about the JC Higgins (a baseball player that endorsed stuff for Sears yes?)

JC Higgins was a sears employee I believe in the accounting department, not a baseball player who endorsed sears products.Ted Williams was a baseball player who endorsed sears sporting goods.

Ah, but there is a JC Higgins/Ted Williams connection according to this source. (http://www.searsarchives.com/brands/jchiggins.htm) Note the last line:

Many people ask if there was a real "J.C. Higgins" who worked for Sears. There certainly was. John Higgins began working for Sears in 1898 as the manager of the headquarters' office bookkeepers and retired as company comptroller in 1930.
"John Higgins" the employee became "J.C. Higgins" the brand name during a discussion in 1908 among Sears' executives of possible names for a new line of sporting goods. At this point, the story gets a bit murky, but Higgins' name was suggested and John Higgins consented to Sears use his name. Since he did not have a middle initial, Sears added the "C."

In 1908, the Western Sporting Goods Company in Chicago began putting J.C. Higgins on baseballs and baseball gloves sold in Sears catalogs. By 1910, the J.C. Higgins trademark was extended to cover footballs and basketballs. Later, the popularity of the Higgins brand—combined with the wider participation of American youth in sports—led Sears to place tennis equipment, soccer balls, volleyballs, boxing equipment and baseball uniforms in the J.C. Higgins line.

By the 1940s, J.C. Higgins represented all Sears fishing, boating and camping equipment. After the Second World War, Sears consolidated all sporting goods under the J.C. Higgins brand name and added it to a line of luggage.

The J.C. Higgins brand disappeared shortly after Sears introduced the Ted Williams brand of sporting and recreation goods in 1961.

i know it! its a french moto 3 speed.it has an open cable with the little rolller wheel. i know nuthing about it, other than it says mirage on it

What brand is the rear hub? Sounds like someone built a Frankenbike as the Motobecane Mirage was a middle-of-the-road 10 speed.

The Mirage bikes that I have seen have all been 10 or 12 speeds. Sounds like a Frankenbike to me.

Still waiting on those pics, too.

So... I guess this was the "Ladies" version?

Definitely dates from before the popularity of modern "compact" frames.

Sounds like someone built a 27" 3 speed rear wheel and converted a Mirage 10 speed to a 3 speed to me. The original post doesn't mention JC Higgins? Or was it there and now it's edited out?
If it's got a JC Higgins crank, on a Mirage, then someone's just plain been swapping parts around.
