I thought you guys might want to see a little bit of “overkill” on a stand one of my workmates made for me to support the front of our bike in our minivan.
Yes I could have nailed a couple of 2x4’s together, but I work in the Product Design and Development department for a well known manufacturer of ski and wakeboard boats where "good enough" is never good enough . We use a lot of high-density polyethylene sheet, commonly known by the brand name Starboard. We recently bough a new van (see my other thread for a review of the 2011 Odyssey) and needed a stand to hold the fork securely while transporting the tandem to ride events that we enjoy throughout the SE.
My friend is one of the CAD engineers. He put this design together and cut all of the parts on our CNC router for me.
It holds the fork quite securely and the front wheel nestles in its own integrated stand next to the bike.
