I may be moving to Montreal in the near future and possibly working near Cote de Liesse. Is it legal to ride a bike on Cote de Liesse or, as an autoroute, is it in the same category as the 40 in Montreal, or the Queensway in Ottawa?

Thanks

Cote-de-Lesse is part of the 520 and is closed to pedestrians and bicycles. However, there are service roads that run beside and below the expressway that you can use. General access to this part of Montreal can be a little complicated by bicycle depending on where you`re coming from in the rest of the city. You can PM me for more specifics if you know what your home base areas might be.

As Burton says, Cote de Liesse is a highway with a bike permitted service road. There can be a fair amount of traffic on the service road, especially during rush hour when the highway can fill up. Also, many cars enter and leave the service road at a few major cross roads. It's not bicycle friendly, but some people do ride it.

The 520 is smaller than the 40. I consider the 40 service road as unrideable, especially if you have to cross the highway 13 junction.

My commute goes on the service road of Côte-de-Liesse between Montée de Liesse and 55th ave. It's very good westbound but sucks big time the other way because the pavement is in such bad condition that I can't keep a straight line and constantly have to watch what's coming behind. There's one intersection that I find more dangerous going eastbound as well. So it depends where you'd have to ride on the service road. As stated above, access to the area is limited by the train yard and train tracks and highway 20 to the south.

Found an old photo... it's on the service road of the 520 going east, around 55th ave. The billboard says "Paradise Exists". Yeah, right...
