BMX - Is there a freestyle bike with multiple speeds?

Hi, I just registered and this is my first post. There is so much information here I dont know where to start, thus Im just going to ask my question and let you experts tell me what I need to know...

I like the little "freestyle" bikes as I call them, or BMX-style, I guess? Litlle 20 inch (guessing) rims or so, bright colors, designed to jump and do tricks, that sort of thing... But I never do tricks, have no ambition to learn how, and just ride the freestyle bikes on the street to and fro, never using it for what its intended for... All the freestyle bikes Ive had only had 1 speed, and I am desperately searching for a little freestyle bike with more gears like a mountain bike, because I would really like to get in high gear and fly down hills and stuff, I want to go fast... I want the smaller, cooler (my opinion) look of sitting low on the BMX style bike, but all the gears and speed of the big mountain bikes... I dont want to sit up all high like the mountain bikes, but I dont want to be stuck in the first and only gear, either... Also the smaller bikes will load easier into my hatchback, if I bring the bike along on vacation, etc.
Can anyone shoot me links to such a product that it best of both worlds? Or does it not exist? I know I am a dreadful newbie and Im sorry if I sicken all of you with my newbie-ness, but this place is so huge I could search for hours and not be satisfied, can someone just tell me the information I seek? That's a 24", not a 20".

someone used to sell multiple geared bmx style freewheels and a derailleur mount, etc etc. I bet you could find one if you tried hard enough

Yes, that would be Mongoose; the frame was called the Aftershock and it had a setup for a three-speed freewheel and came equipped with a air/oil shock on the seatstays. It also wasn't extremely popular. I think that Dans finally ran out of them a couple years ago, even though they'd had the same ones in stock since '97 (the year that I first got their catalog, so it was probably in there before then). There were a few other frames that had multiple-gear setups, but I can't think of any brands off thetop of my head. Jad, maybe?

You will be lucky to find anything serious with multiple speeds as it is not part of bmx or freestyle. There is no need for multiple gears and serious manufacturers have stuck to what is appropriate for the riders.

If you just like the 20" look but don't want to do tricks, look into folding bikes.

The Giant Halfway is a real nice one, it looks cool to me, full aluminum frame with lotsa gears, not expensive, is said to ride nicely. Plus you never have to lock it outside; just fold it and bring it in with you.

I bought a Caribike 20" folder years ago, lately upgraded it with new cranks, triple chainwheel and monkey bars. Young lads shake their heads as I pass and say, "That is _such_ a cool bike."

I got bored at the bike shop and build a 20" powerlite frame with a 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub laced to some Z-rims (front and rear). It's dangerous.

The Specialized P- series mountain bikes and some Kona mtbs (shred, scrap) sound like what you're looking for. They're made for dirtjumping and have suspension forks but the geometry is kind of in between BMX and MTB frames. They have 26" wheels but that would probably help with downhilling like you want to do.
