I've been holding out for a long time trying to find a short sleeve black wool cycling jersey for under $50. Is it possible? Does anyone know of anything even close to this price range? Thanks.

I tried looking a while back, and I think you're out of luck. I could not find anything under $100.

Checkout http://www.chainlove.com/, http://www.bonktown.com/, and http://www.steepandcheap.com/ often. I have purchased two short sleeve wool Swobo jerseys for $50-55 each. I also have a long sleeve Swobo wool, and Swobo wool tights and wool knickers as well. Most of those came from the three above sites. Also do a google search and ebay. You can often find some closeouts of older models for under $75 if you are patient.

I have bought Smartwool jerseys at Sierra Trading Post for around $35, I like them better than the Swobo jersey. Fits better and you can actually use the back pockets (less sag).

I bought my wool Brooks L'Eroica jersey at Ben's Cycle for 75 new without the box. I just checked and they must finally be out. That was a killer deal since they normally go for 200.

I've gotten good deals on wool jerseys on eBay. I particularly like ones with obscure European amateur team names.

+1 on Sierra Trading Post. I've picked up Smartwool and some Canari merino wool jerseys there for around $35 when they go on sale.

Back in the fall Nashbar put Sugoi 100% Merino Wool jerseys (long and short sleeve) on sale for under 40 bux. I bought a long and a short sleeve and am still kicking myself for not buying like 10 more...deal of the century.

btw thanks for the Bonktown link. I checked that site out over the summer and loved it, and then forgot the name and have been looking for it since!

**edit**

did you know all three of those site , bonktown, steepandcheep, and chainlove are all run by Backcountry.com?

+1 on this. They are often well made and very durable as well.

If you're an XL and can live "limeade" as your color, here's a Swobo for $55:

I do too but they are usually old jerseys from the 60's and 70's so keep a few things in mind:
Bike racers were made with tougher skin back then. The wool was much more scratchy than modern wool jerseys made for the modern (and more sensitive) man.
Bike racers back then were much, much smaller. A size large is an American size small. Wool bike jerseys from back then do not exist for men over six feet tall.
