Recreational & Family - Beach Cruiser

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to start a thread on beach cruisers, get everyone's thoughts and opinions on them. I didn't know which forum to put them in so I figured recreational would be a good place to start.
So questions for you all?
Classic Beach Cruiser- Miss'em, want'em, hate'm, love'm? Whats your ideal place for a sweet ride on one: the beach, cruising around town, lake rides, etc?
Give a HEE-HA to if you currently ride a beach cruiser too.

I have a few cruisers, 2 vintage, & 2 retro, that I just ride around the area & down to the nearest store. Oldest one is a 1962 Schwinn Tiger that was given to me in rough shape !! Riding big bikes with their smooooth ride makes me think of my childhood when this was about all we had.

The ride on a beach cruiser is beyond comfortable, in Charleston, its nice to just cruise the battery here and enjoy the beautiful weather and sights of the bay. I feel like every coastal city has got to have a great route to ride and never get tired of it.

I'm the chief mechanic at a large beach bike rental company on Hilton Head Island. For the beach, they are perfect for casual riders to get around. For those that need basic transportation, a comfort or hybrid bike is better. Road bikes and fixies are almost overkill.
I've got two cruisers for myself. One is a Fuji Shakalaka, but stripped of the fluff: no fenders or bags. The other started life as a Jesse James chopper bike, those sold by Huffy in big box stores about 6 years ago. I again lost the fenders, painted the frame gloss black, swapped in a long seat post, then different handlebars. For the coup de grace, I installed a 26" front wheel.
I remember when we started making them at the bike shop I worked at as a kid. My boss took a trip to California and when he came back he had us converting Schwinn heavy duty bikes into beach cruisers.. :D

a cruiser is on my list, to complete the collection. i did a test ride on one at REI, just for giggles, and that's exactly what i did. we have a park by the river here where it would be nice to lolligag on a cruiser.

I love my beach cruisers! I have a Jamis Boss Cruiser which is my fave, a Dellacruz 1.0 which is a stretch comfort cruiser, a Trek Rail, and a Fuji which is for guests. The Trek is for beach riding, the Jamis goes anywhere, and the Dellacruz is my princess - she goes out when she's in the mood.

I love my cruiser. I bought a 2010 Electra Super Deluxe for my 40th birthday and have ridden it more in the past year than I'd ridden my old hybrid in the past 5 years. While it is more at home on bike paths and board walks, I have done several trips on the hilly carriage roads around Acadia National Park in Maine. I did walk the really steep hills but I owe that to me being out of shape more than a fault of the bike.

I've been thinking of getting a Huffy Panama Jack cruiser for a while now. I just think it looks cool - never ridden a cruiser before, but I hear they're comfortable. Not sure how the wife will take it though, as I already have three bicycles in the garage and another one due to come in this weekend.
