Sesamoiditis. Knocked me out of regular training since last October. I still ran a Turkey Trot in Surfside Beach , SC (25:28) anyway.
The worst time to not be training is during the holidays. Can you say 15lb weight gain? The fact that I worked my way up to 42 consecutive pushups was a Pyrrhic victory.
So now it's February. Lets get started with a 5K training program to get back into it, right? No. I can't even do 800s @ 7:50 pace anymore. I guess the aerobic base is pretty much like Elvis: left the building.
So now I'm thinking. . how am I supposed to ride them hills if I can barely jog up them? So training for a sub 24:30 5K was a little ambitious.
So I cracked open my training logs from 2009. I guess I'll start there.
Running sucks.

You know what sucks more than running or riding slowly?
Not doing it at all.

Exactly.
But it's a bit more introspective than that. It's the point where overconfidence in one's abilities, that past performance is indicative of future results, the attitude of: oh sure, I can do that, no problem conspire to give on an overstated opinion of one's self.
An AT told me a long time ago it can take weeks to build up a level of fitness and only days to loose it. I didn't disbelieve it, but a lot of things don't become real until one experiences them first hand.
No it doesn't really suck. It sucks to have to admit that I'm not as good as I think I am. :)

Running doesn't suck, running is evil!
Where is Southbeach, SC? I've lived on the SC coast my whole life and the only "South Beach" is a tourist trap on Hilton Head Island inside Sea Pines.

Crap. You're right. I keep saying South Beach because that's the name of the place we stay a lot. I meant Surfside Beach.
Swore I'd never go back after the crappy cancellation of last year's Marathon. That totally sucked. Sucked Sucked sucked. Of course NOW they CHANGE the RULES so it can only be cancelled in the event of severe thunderstorms (lightning) or ice.

running does suck. Swimming on the other hand I think it takes the prize as the exercise that sucks. I really dislike swimming, more than running. I really do not know why I am doing triathlons this year again.

The only thing that sucks about swimming is. . finding a pool or suitable body of water to accommodate. And I think I never felt I . . it seems to need a bit longer time to get the same level of workout as one can get with running or . No, it's ennui. Swimming is just BORING.
I swam competitively until I was 15-- at which time I wasn't tall / lanky enough or lean enough to keep up with the competition. Switched to wrestling.
But that was 20 years ago. . .
I'm supposed to be cleaning out my closet. Waiting for my estranged wife to wake up and maybe go run an easy 3. . . or 3.5 maybe 4. Definitely not 8.
