im new to mtb and this forum. i plan on buying my friends trek 3700 next week.i want to get into xc racing , but i know this bike isnt a XC racing bike.what would be some good upgrades , till next year so i can buy me a better bike.also his derailler broke..what would be a good upgrade derailler from the shimano atlus

I would say this, if you are going to buy a new bike for yourself next year the only upgrades I would do to this one are ones that make it more comfortable to ride, ie. stem, handlebars, grips, seats, etc. Which derailleur broke? If its the front I would say replace it with the cheapest one you can find that fits the bike. If it was the rear again anything that fits but make sure that it is another shimano because a sram rd wont work with your shifters.

Hi Jarret_C, I am actually looking into getting this bike as well. I plan on using it more for casual use (walking my dog and maybe a little commuting). What's your overall opinion of this bike?
