Just dropped in from the 50+forum, i am 65 and ride road bikes. Have no intentions to ride a mountain bike however we have my wife's cousin and husband coming in from back east in June and he rides hybrid/mountain bikes. He's a rec rider so i know he would not be comfortable on any of my 8 or so bikes. Stopped at a yard sale yesterday
and spotted a mountain bike. It is a ParkPre Hammer with Deore LX Hubs/RD/FD,
Shimano cranks/chainwheels. Deore DX Shifters and SLR brakes. Rims are Araya. 20 inch frame with blue/green splash paint on white. Paint is very good and just a little rust hear and there. Payed $40.00 for it. Tires are good and looks like a tractor! Shifters are neat, the ride is very soft, two neon green bottle cages brighten it up. Seams like a well built bike but as i have no space may just get rid of it after my guest leaves. Do you think it's worth keeping? After clean up and adjustments could i get more than the $40.00? Thanks.

could i get more than the $40.00? Thanks.

Yes.

Honestly if you put a lot of time into it you could probably sell it for $125 or so. Or you could sell it to me for $50!

I'm thinking that you can ask $125. for a dinosaur with Deore and better parts, good tires and easy ride. That was a good find in my book.

Thanks, my computer crashed and i pulled this boat anchor out of the deep dark part of my garage. Finally got it up and going until i can get my regular computer fixed. Loaded Chrome and 61 updates just to be able to post. Thanks again for the replies. I was thinking any where from $80 to $125.00 depending on the time of year. I have to thin my road bike herd and ride this bike some. It's funny how our eyes lock onto a new addition no matter how many we have already. At least i had a real purpose in mind for this bike.

If the DX thumbshifters are in good shape, you could probably bring in $40 for those alone with a little patience.

Thanks Lester, nice article, and the DX thumbshifters are in great shape. The bike is easy to shift. I have a longer upper torso so the bike reach feels fine for me with the stock stem. I avoid water as much as i can with the road bikes, but with this i could just blast on through it and not worry. Ride safe.
