Since buyingthe Spec. Roubaix last spring I have been haunted by longer distance rides (20+ miles) leaving me in "butt agony". I had over 2000 agony filled miles on the sadlle and it wasnt getting better - I had resorted to "double bagging" on long rides. I switched out the stock saddle (Avante ?) to the same make but wider ($150). That seat lasted a month as I could not even go 10 miles on it. Climbing off the bike after a ride was such relief it actually brought tears to my eyes.
I decided to use this ever-so-cool forum to research clyde-friendly saddles and saw the Brooks B17 saddle mentioned over and over again. I hesitantly plonked down $80 for a B17 and applied the leather care dubbing as directed. Well, I now have close to 150 mile on the saddle and it is just awesome.
I just got back from a 30 mile, 2100ft ride and I can honestly say that, even with the climbing (usually hurts my butt the most), it was one of the most enjoyable rides Ive had in a long time. As your riding the B17 you can actually feel the leather "bouncing" beneath your butt and not hitting the hard base as on the stock saddle.
I arrived home climbed off the bike and felt aching - but in the right pace - my legs :)
A+ for the Brooks - love it! :thumb:
