one week down into his "ban" and the forums just doesn't seem right without him. We are friends on facebook, but it is still not the same. Neil, I miss your awesomeness on the forums.

It's funny as I was thinking where the Historian was lately.

How long is the ban? I figured it had something to do with the politics forum - which I have decided to stay out of... I'm very politically active, but decided to stay out of the politics forum on here. We're friends on facebook though so I still chat with him every once in a while.

I believe Historian's is a month.

I sometimes get requests and don't know who the person is, because the name on FB and the name here are quite different. It's a good idea when sending a friend request to include a comment that it's __ insert handle here__ from bike forums. I'm fairly easy to find these days, there are only 2 people with my last name in town, the other one is a little old lady at the old folks home. When I lived in Toronto the phone book had two full columns.....

Me and The Historian don't see eye-to-eye on many things on this forum but I do respect someone with enough self-control and self-awareness to give up something they spend so much time on. Neil, I hope you're getting whatever it is you need out of the self-imposed ban.

Not everyone wants to have a lot of "friends" on facebook. My facebook friends are people that I would keep in touch with anyways, and no one else. I don't care about people that I knew 20 years ago in school, or people I know with but don't socialize with. So don't take it personally.

I'm sure Neil will let me hear about this once he reads it, but I don't agree with the idea of having a self-imposed ban created. It's an excuse to have someone else do what your own sense of self-control could not. That would be like me walking into Taco Bell and giving them my picture and saying, "Do Not Sell Food to This Man." Did I really exhibit self control?

You'll know, if you ever get any. If you don't know if you have any, then you don't have any. They appear on your profile, but only you and the staff can see them. You also get a nastygram if you get them issued via PM. If you have less than 50 posts, the issuing Moderator will also give you a contact email address to discuss the action, as well as mine if you want to appeal it. The mods can't reverse a decision, but if you can make a reasonable case to either them or me, we've been known to reverse the infraction. There's always right of appeal.

I took some time off because:

A. I'm currently on the DL and I didn't feel I could make positive contributions to the forum.

B. Because of my injury, my much talked-of cross country tour was postponed, and I was embarrassed about it.

C. The Weak Link and Jdon on the 50+ Forum had themselves banned, and I wanted to try it.

Well, the ban didn't improve my mood. Thanks to a chat with Thestoutdog this afternoon I changed my mind, and so I asked Tom Stormcrowe to reinstate me.
