I've decided to buy a mountain bike but due to budget restraints $400.00 is all I have to work with. So far I've looked at a Specailzed Hardrock sport and a Raleigh M40DX. Are these good choices for a beginner on a budget. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

check out the $500 mtb thread above, aside from that, dont know anything about the raleigh but the hardrock seems to be quite popular for a starter bike.

im just starting with a hardrock xc, i like it, its pretty solid rides really nice i think.
its not very expensive either, so its good if you dont have a huge budget for a bike...id reccomend it for a first bike
