Folding Bikes - Folder on Folder.

I needed to pick up my adult son (autistic) from his school this afternoon. I decided I would figure out a way to tow my bicycle with his tricycle. Surprise him with a fun ride home. After fiddling for about 15 minutes I decided it was too complicated a task given the few minutes I had left before I had to leave to get him. Ah, I have an idea! The folder may fit in the basket. And it did. Three bungies and the Downtube 8H was surprisingly steady. Had room for a couple of coats and a small bag. 2.5 miles later, unpack and unfold. It was a surprise and a fun ride.

I almost tried that with my Speed D7. I tried fitting it on my trike to take it to the bike shop so they could adjust the gears, at the time. The LBS is over 3 miles away.

Didn't have any bungee cords though and was about to tie it up with rope when my sister unexpectedly came by in her van.

I had told her over the phone that morning that I was going to try this approach to get the bike there today. She really didn't say much about it at the time. She definitely didn't say anything about dropping by that day.

She figured she'd save me from my "foolishness", as she termed it, and drop by to give me a lift.

My next try was with my R20. This time my nephew came by.

No I didn't call anyone this time. My family just pops up like that.

To be honest, I was glad for the intervention on the R20. It doesn't fold very well and it weighs a ton.

Hey SunnyFlorida, All the folders have worked out well. My son really enjoys his trike. My wife loves her Barcelona and the DownTube suits me fine. But those trikes are a totally different ride, requiring lots more energy to keep moving. And the steering is fun too. I remember you were looking into the Barcelona at one time. I have to say, other than the poor fit of the frame hinge, it's is my favorite to ride. Good seating position. Single piece handlebar stem, feels solid and no squeaks. Excellent brakes. The three speed hub with attached drum brake makes all that business at the back wheel nice and tidy. Our bikes seem to have little problems but they are not very expensive. I'm glad we have them, I don't want to miss out on any rides.

I took my Kingpin to the frame builders for the brazing to be done, strapped on the front rack of my other folding bike. Admittedly it wasn't the complete bike and it was less than a mile.

My friend, and room mate has one of those same folding trikes but I am the one who rides it 95% of the time to run errands. On one occasion I took one of my folders to the bike shop by placing it on the basket and fastening it with bungee cords. It really surprised some people when they seen the folding bike carried by a folding trike.

My Downtube Mini fits nicely in one of the side pockets of my Xtracycle. It's a great way to pick up people from the ferry. I can carry their baggage and they have a nice bike to ride while visiting.

I can see where a Mini or other 16'' folder could come in handy in this situation. I had use of an Xtracycle for a few months, miss it.
