I know I just bought a cheapie computer, but it's really cheesing me off. Could someone please tell me how to change the thing from km to miles? I can do the math, no problem, but I like seeing miles in front of me. The instructions say absolutely nothing (besides the fact that they're one step away from useless). I even went online, but nothing.
FWIW, I'll definitely buy a better unit next time.
Thanks in advance!

push the set and mode buttons at the same time. The set button is on the back and the mode button is on the front. KM should be flashing - hit the mode button then miles should be flashing now push the set button.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!
I went online and saw that it was the same as the sheet they'd enclosed (did that last night). Honest, I'm not a mental rock, but I just couldn't work it out after pressing buttons, cursing, pressing button, more cursing... The wheel and fork bit were a sheer guess, but they turned out perfect---guess the biking god felt sorry for me. ;)

problem is that it will clear all the data including the ODO, which I would like to retain. Anyone know a way around this, or maybe I am wrong?

No, you're right. This particular model is the VERY basic model...not really good for what I wanted, but it'll have to do. I had used it on a short route and wanted to reset it for my next one and it wiped everything. So...you either keep all the info and just do the math, or wipe it out and reset it each time. My touring bike will definitely get a much higher grade model.
My original problem was that I couldn't even set the thing to miles (*red face*).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RljNllE9AF0 I know the thread is a bit dated but here's a pretty good resource for the Cateye Velo 8 computer.
