After completing our first MTB race my wife had problems with bladder control. She went to see the MD and he diagnosed a bent neck of the bladder. He says it is common with older women and is aggravated with childbirth. What woriies me, can this be aggrevated with cycling. We are both VERY active cuyclists and has done at least 17000 km on our tandem the past three and a half years. She asked him the question and he said that cycling should not cause the problem. He also refferred her to a Specialist. She will go soon. He said the worts case remedy is surgery but in most cases medication and special exercises can cure the problem. Anybody out there with answers.

I am sorry for your wife's discomfort. Sounds like a female version of an inflamed prostate (no fun). I hope all goes well with the specialist.
I am sorry also for your wife's problem- have you thought of trying a different shaped saddle that does not press so much on the affected area- I once saw a sort of semi-circle shaped saddle that might be better? maybe some of the other forum members could provide more info on it?
good luck
I'd seriously consider getting a ViewPoint from Bilenky http://www.bilenky.com/viewpnt.html
My wife swears by our CounterPoint...
let me know if you have any questions!

I like the advertising blurb: "Yet the captain's head is close enough to the stoker's head that it's possible to kiss while riding" ha ha
Just watch where you are going while you doing all this kissing.
The saddle you have reference to is called Halo. Have seen some stokers use it. Believe Mel, at Tandems East, may carry them.
A Pino (similar to Counterpoint) is available as a production model and versions of the counter-point style are built by Bilenky and Bu
. . . sorry for inadvertent disruption!
Bilenky and Bushnell, we believe, each are licensed to build their version of the Counterpoint set-up.
That could be a solution to bladder pressure from regular saddles for your stoker.
Yes, pilot can kiss/whisper in stoker's ear while riding, as stoker sits up front in a recumbent position, while captain/steersman rides upright and steers this conveyance with his head real close to the stoker.
For other romantic interludes we suggest stopping the bike and . . .
... swapping positions, then...
ha
Nee nee nee Zonatandem, as jy fietsry dan ry jy fiets..... none of these romantic interludes.... but then it could add a whole new dimension to the word tandem!!!!!!!
Keep those wheels spinning!!!

Firstly I'm sorry to here that your wife has a problem.....Secondly I'm not a Doctor,I know nothing of the complaint......A few say change the saddle?
Go one better and take a test ride on a recumbent Tandom...Any one will do to start with......As long as it has a nice deck chair seat....No need to say any more......Just try one.....Please let us know what you think.....And past on all the best to your good lady.....
Thanx for all the good wishes. We live in the good old R of South Africa and even "normal" upright tandems are few and far between. If you want a recumbent you have either build one yourself or import one without even testing it first. The most favourite bents are tandem frame coversions with the normal size rear wheel and small up front. If you import you also do not have after sale service. For now her problem seems to be over and it seems that it was more the bumping and irritation of the gravel roads during the MTB race. We did a ninety km training ride on Sunday as well as we spin two two hour sessions every week. No problems so far.
Thats really good news about your old lady.......Sounds like you need to move to the next stage.....Build your own.....No problem with after sale service, just cut it up and start again.....The down side here in the U.K is Gas bottles with all the pipe are very expensive..The up side is there are loads of bikes just ready for improvment..And take it from me to ride a bike you have built your self is just magic.....Again not happy with some thing then....cut it off and stick it back on were you want it......Enjoy....
